sorry couldn't help myself. This is a reworking of something I wrote sometime earlier but thought it didn't quite work. Now it has a title and a theme to hold it together. TALKING CARLTON: (for the mods) What is it that twists at us so? That calls to us across the suburbs Until our feet itch to be on their way Without even knowing where they go? We dream of The Bluebaggers, Of champions rampant under the Navy Blue sky. We dream of white monograms And the gentle shade under the sacred Stand. Who then dreams with us? Whose heart quickens at a glimpse of that jumper? Of the visions that swirl With memories of famous victories Like the deep blue dreams Of our long ago and faraway childhoods? Talking Carlton calls! Talking Carlton calls! Talking Carlton! Talking Carlton! The Land of Navy Blue, The place where we can gather And let discussions about the Navy Blue Bestow a gentle peace upon us. Talking Carlton is the river that always finds its true path. Talking Carlton is the wolf that howls proudly to its mother. It is the ant that labours through the hot days of summer And the ladybird that glitters as it kills to feed. It is the antlered King who runs before the pack. It is the strings of a harp that cries the sweetest tunes Across the blossoming grounds of the AFL. We are Talking Carlton again! We are Talking Carlton again! We are always Talking Carlton again! We follow the team in the famous Navy Blue jumper! We gather on line and in person And talk all things Carlton. We sing their legends And create new ones about their daring deeds. Watch my hands As they talk about Carlton. Follow my words As they shout about Carlton. Hear my voice As it sings about Carlton! We are the acorn that grows in Carlton. We are the oak that casts shade in Carlton. We are them all and much, much more, For the talking never ends But twists and curls, Always touching back upon itself Before proceeding onwards: Come to Talking Carlton! Come to Talking Carlton! Come and set your dreams free: Fly upon the deep blue words of Talking Carlton As we follow the team where all our hopes Are released into an ocean of possibility. Danny, I'd like to be the first to scroll straight to the bottom of the page and compliment you on your latest effort. I (like everyone else) didn't read it, but I'm sure it was very good. Just kidding. I really did read the whole thing. Didn't understand a word, but I kept going anyway. Something to do with talking about carlton, right?
