Post subject:  Massive Changes come seasons end.

Late last year I made the statement that we did not make enough changes to the list considering we finished bottom of the ladder.
It now appears that the reason for this is because:
1) The 2005 Draft was not great beyond pick 30 &
2) Quite a few of our players were still in contract.
Come the end of round 22 a massive clean out is expected.
Players that are coming out of contract and have to go are:
Livingston, Davies, Teague, McGrath, Longmuir, Chambers, Prendergast, Bannister, Wiggins and Sporn. Total of 10.
Deluca will remain as he is contracted. He was signed up at the end of last year for 2 years and players like Bryan and Raso are on the borderline.
Problem is none of these players would attract interest from any of the other 15 clubs, meaning that a few of these players may survive due to the numbers that we will require to draft via the National and Pre Season drafts.
The only way all will go with the exception of maybe Bryan and Raso is if we see massive improvement in Jackson, Flynt & Smith, with at least two of these guys possibly promoted at the end of the year to the Senior List.
We then can use up 6 picks in the National Draft ie 1, 17( priority pick ), 18, 34, 50 & 66 and use 2 picks in the Pre Season draft.
I also believe Kouta has to retire. His input as player and captain is non existant and it is dissapointing to see him run around like this at the moment.
We also have a massive issue with future leaders at the club.
From the age bracket of 24 - 27 is where we break down.
Other than maybe Whitnall, Stevens and Fevola there isn't much to boast about. Even given Fevola's great season to date and change of attitute I don't see him as a future captain of the CFC.
The coaching staff. Denis will be there in 2007. No doubt about it.
He is contracted until the end of 2008. We are in no position to pay out a coach 1.8MIO and then seek another coach and pay them also.
We do not have the money.
The Collins administration jumped the gun when we won the Wizard Cup and extended Pagan's contract.
However I am certain Elshaug and Libba will not be there.
Massive decisons will be made on & of the field but the bottom line is there is no quick fix.
We are at least 4 years away from being some sort of force.
The only way to be build is via the Draft with kids and no more recycled players unless selected in the Pre Season Draft where there is no need to give up draft picks.
Too bad this philosophy was not taken on board in previous years because if it was we would not be in this position today.
Past administration and past coach are the one's to blame.
ie John Elliot for breaching the system and turning Hamill away from the club & David Parkin for giving away early draft picks for hacks like McGuane, Mansfield and O'Reilly.
If only we could turn back time. We could possibly have Aaron Hamill, Paul Chapman, Charlie Gardner, Daniel Wells, Brendard Goddard & Brock McLean playing for the blues.

I read that Raso played his best game yet last Saturday

Turning back the clock would also mean we'd not have Fisher, Simpson,Walker, Murphy, Kennedy,Russell etc etc.

Whats done is done... The problem with many of us is we still keep looking back ( not directed at you mate ).

We are now in position that we can only influence the future not change the past, so hopefully we keep moving forward. Lets get the best kids and lets see what this Pagan bloke can achieve in the next 2 years..

Raso is coming out of his initial 2 year contract after being drafted supposedly a year early being very bottom aged.

So he's been in the system for 18 months... why the hell would we get rid of him? Especially seeing he's been busy with school, then copped glandular fever.

People are just looking for players to test their axes and knives on. Wholesale changes for sure but two things need to be taken into account:
Who deserves their spot on the list or has more development time in them?
How many pickups should we take this year given the touted quality of the draft after this one and the need for a minimum of three players to be delisted from the senior list each year?

Scotland has in my opinion been one of our best this season and I reckon gets a raw deal from some Carlton fans for some reason.

Carrazzo is no star but every team has its Carrazzo types. Handy player for the moment.

the wiggler is an interesting one. i reckon he's been ok since coming back into the side. no he isn't gonna win a game off his own boot, but he is as honest as the day is long and seems to be genuinely improving his all round game, including his skills and decision making.

that list of players have little to no currency. players who may have currency that we may be willing to part with is something to consider though. ryan houlihan. and not because he is a pet hate or anything like that. mostly because there are few players on our list that carry currency and wouldn't leave a gaping wound in the side should they move on. in fact i can't say that i can really think of another one.

The Blue Wiggle deserves his spot at the moment. The way he has been the last few weeks he will get another year.

The thing is although many of these players are showing very little at the moment it is way too early to make these calls. Players can change their form and output in a couple of months.

We must be thinking ahead. It is important too delist as many as reasonably possible, too ensure that we get in nearly 10 new players again, who can mature and develop TOGETHER as one.

Our first pick should be the best midfielder we can get our hands on

The second pick should be the best Ruckman we can get

The rest predominantly midfielders, possibly with a late backmen.

We have carried out a review of the coaching staff and decided we will not be making any changes

We have picks 1,17,18 35 plus the first pick in the pre season draft

There will be no major changes to the playing list with only the retirement of Kouta - delisting of Longmure- Chambers - Davies - Bryan

The club has given Denis a directive to carry on with the youth policy

Please get on board and support your club

If wea re going to be harsh and go through the playing list. These are the players I would keep;

Bannister, Bentick, Betts, Blackwell, Bower, Bryan
Carazzo
Edwards
Fevola, Fisher
Hartlett, Houlihan
Kennedy
lappin
Mclaren, Murphy
Setanta O
prendergast
raso, Russell
Scotland, Simpson, stevens
Thornton
waite, Walker, whitnall

I would give a last chance to...

French, Livingston, McGrath, Wiggins

Meaning I would de-list, sell, retire or turn to glue...

Chambers, Davies, DELUCA!!!!!!,Kouta, Longmuir, Saddington, Sporn, Teague.

I reckon with retiring Kouta and moving on these 2nd chance players we have a little room for improvement in the list.

Do you agree?

You're going to chop 8 players from the list and you think you're being harsh?
