Anyone able to re-confirm this? I can't find a profile on Richard Newton but the name rings a bell (TV personality and his children aside).

I would suggest that Richard Newton is not the fresh blood the board needs given he has been a director of the Carlton Football & Cricket Social Club for the past six years.

Is the social club in a worse financial state than the actual football club. ??

Great to have Bear Gleeson on board.

Just heard that Daniel Grollo has declined an offer to join the current Board....He would have been a good replacement should Bruce Mattheison walk away.

Richard Newton will be very good and Adrian Gleeson will provide a footballers perspective as well as business acumen.....

Yes it is in worse condition but I believe that's because most of its revenue has dried up?

Gleeson on 3AW shortly

The only reason the Social Club is now a dead man walking is because the Social Club Directors agreed to allow the games to be transferred away from Princess Park.

The Social Clubs main revenue stream was derived from the games and up until 2005 always made a significant profit. The perception out there that the Social Club Directors are at fault for Carltons current financial position is wrong as the Social Club Directors agreed to transfer games to TD and the G in the knowledge that the Social Club would be eventually merged with the Footy Club and would be in the best interest of the club.

Doesn't sound like an inspiring choice...but then again this is the carlton footy club we're talking about
While we are at lets get Ross Fiore from the social club to the footy board too!!!

From what I hear the only stand out performer on the Social Club Board (ok - not much to beat), a low profile but with very heavy business connections. Also another young guy.

A couple of not bad additions as far as foot soldiers are concerned but we need movers and shakers.
People that will break with current tradition of the softly softly approach ..

Those additions mean nothing except maybe along with Lee abit more passion.

Fair enough speedy but I guess all of us are a bit sceptical of guys getting on the board from within the club.
The choice of Smorgon as president is just so wrong…how is the club meant to sell it-self with a guy who comes across as stiff as an iron board??

I agree with you Rhys on that....

Gleeson wont rock any boat and in my opinion Clark deserved to get on for no other reason than he ran our vice president to 9 votes of taking a sabbatical.

The other two didnt even put up their hands and go that process.
