Not a great week for JW. He has damaged his Medial Collateral Ligament and is frustrated for more than one reason. Waite had to wait (pardon the pun again) for an assessment on his knee after club officials told him the specialist who deals with the Blues was away on a conference. Initially reported as a 3 week injury - it's far more serious and he is looking at a possibility of 8 weeks on the sidelines. The specialist was apparently due to return from the conference, but JW didn't want to delay things any more than they should have been and lined up an appointment with another specialist - who happens to be Essendon*'s specialist. However when coach Pagan heard of these developments - he barred JW from seeing the Bombers knee guru. The injury is not great timing for Waite either - due to move house this week and becoming increasingly frustrated at his injury prone career. No doubt he'll be of some use to young Paul Bower in the weight room as 'Alosi is a pretty similar size now as JW was when he first arrived at the club. |

That is just nonsensical. Waite would have Dr - Patient privilege with the other specialist even if he is a specialist for the Dons. Ridiculous. ![]() Unless we have negotiated special rates with the Carlton doctor I suppose. But even then, if Waite was willing to pay himself to see the other Dr sooner, what is the fuss about? |

Good to see he's focussed on the big issues, though? ![]() |

Yet an assessment has already been done?! The official word was there was an equipment failure, forcing him to wait half a day for a scan and resultantly overnight for results. So, which one is true? ![]() |

Excuse my while I go fork out for a CT Scanner and an MRI machine along with an OR. I'll let you go find out the prices. |

Didnt Dr Sherrin say "pool" their resources? I believe their is an MRI as part of the Western Oval development. It's about AFL clubs sharing their resources and pooling funds to purchase the relevant equipment. Why is that so difficult? |

Because then every aspiring surgeon will want to work in said department because they'll be paid through the nose. Kinda like plastic surgeons in Hollywood, personal injury lawyers, etc. While footballers receive fantastic care, we suddenly start losing greedy, but highly skilled doctors and nurses. There are existing (and adequate) health systems in place, insurance gives them a saving, maybe a CT or MRI might help but that's pretty much the line. Where are we going to get the money from though? |

Please explain the link between an AFL pooled medical centre with a dedicated staff of specialists working out of one location and doctors and lawyers getting greedy and charging through the nose. You've just made shit up to boost your post count. |

Now there's a question. ![]() Well a pooled resource would be a private practise, and the doctors would probably be specialising in sports injuries. Given that there probably would be nothing like this currently in the country, it would probably become the pinacle of the sports medicine industry in this country. There are virtually two reasons why you enter into such an area of medicine: love of sports, and (or) love of the money that flows like champagne in professional sports. So I liken the latter reasoning as why a hollywood doctor would specialise in plastic surgery, and why lawyers look for money see personal injury as a goldmine over in the US. My beef with this is that in this case, we could lose skilled doctors and nurses chasing the extra cash for their expertise, whether that be through greed or need. If they are leaving the public sector then we're losing out on an already stretched system. Aaaaaanywho, that's all hypothetical. |

Hang on - you're saying that there are currently no doctors who specialise in sports medicine? I'm saying the entire medical industry is stretched so if we're losing doctors to some sort of club center, we could lose from private practise, which is bad, or we could lose out from our hospitals. You think that sports doctors who regularly treat a particular club see no other patients who plays sport just for fun? That's a far fetched point. Deano, why are you even here. Round of applause for Deano, +1. |
