just caught the end - don't challenge the current board they haven't been there long enough....

Then it ended, but they said, "oh, that'll lead to talkback from Carlton supporters after the game"

What did he say?

Most of that board has been there for 4 years. How much longer do they want?

Maclure said he wouldn't join the Board because Lee and Smorgon didn't present a satisfactory plan in the meeting he had with them.

Mark did state that Smorgon has only been there for 6 weeks and he should be given more time.

He thinks we should get a Voss, Archer or Hird down to the club so Pagan can groom them as a coach. Maclure also stated Voss or Archer would work hard to earn respect not dollars at Carlton like Thompson at Geelong.

Damian Barrett from the little paper stated that the opposition clubs claim we don't qualify for money from the CBF and the AFL will make us sweat so the board can dig us out of the mess.

Barrett also stated that there are backers waiting for the AFL to come to a decision before they reach into their own pockets and we will get the money for PP.

Assistant coaches need to go. Can't see any of them coaching at senior level. Need to bring in a recent player.

Players not developing well.

Board has no plan. Considered going on board but can't see they have a plan.

Losing culture. Players don't know how to win.

carlton is in the business of winning games of football.
not until the club starts to have winning seasons can the off-field financial problems be rectified.

you can't make money losing 18 of 22 games of football per season. not when you have no money to begin with.

because the list is so poor, and the kids are mostly just very average and while some will be decent contributors in the future they won't be stars, which is what a list as bad as carltons needs.
2-3 years and a winning team will result in winning off the field. the board just has to put the measurements in place to absolutely capitalise when the good team arrives. and AFL is cyclical, carlton may have been above average in the VFL, but are very much a middle of the road football club now, both in performance, support and interest. the time will come, like it has for geelong, st kilda, bulldogs etc.

west coast, adelaide, Essendon* and collingwood can control their own destiny. carlton cannot. the cyclical nature of AFL will.

Jesus, while most of us have suspected that for a while, it's terrible to hear that a respected Carlton actually confirms it.

Wasnt Collingwood still making profits when they were crap?

They had a good president who had a good plan! we have a president who doesnt have a plan or the ability to turn this club into a winning club.

I'm a bit disapointed in McClure. Sure Smorgon doesn't have a plan - we all know that. But at least he was going to someone who might help create one. Pretty piss poor really - he was asked to come onto the board to help guide the future then bags the place because they don't hve a plan. The one thing I'll say for Smorgon is that least he is putting in time - trying - its not his fault he the wrong person for the job. McClure was offered the chance to be part of the solution and chose to sit back in his compfy chair and critisize.

I've said it previously McLure impresses me. I'm not disappointed in what he has said at all. Tell it like it is. Like many others on this site I am sick of being bullshitted by this club and administration.

The sooner both the Board and the administration (starting with Malouf) are over hauled the better.

Mclure would make a great board member/president down the track in my books.

Collingwood received money from the AFL because they needed help and I bet they didn't have to jump through as many hoops as Carlton, North, Melbourne and the Dogs.

It'd be nice to think that he'd go in and help them devise a plan if he thought they didn't have one.
