Post subject:  Josh Kennedy - 31 mins TOG

Sorry if this has been discussed in another thread.....

BUt I am extremely frustrated that with injuries to Waite and fisher we are not giving Josh Kennedy the opportunity to make CHF his own. How the hell can he improve and develop as a player of the future when he gets a total of 31mins ground time...Yes, he still has some physical development to come but he is already developed enough to play right now.

He was recruited as the best kep position player in the draft. PLay him every minute of every game and let him adapt to the pace and pressure of AFL football.

Dropping Betts and Carazzo was bad enough. Playing Preder, Sporn, Teague and Livo instead of these guys is not doing us any favours for the future. ( by the way, I thought Wiggins has finally started to catch up with the tempo of AFL football and has earnt his spot).

I have been extremely patient with the MC and their decision making. But as a lifetime member of the club I want to see some daylight at the end of the tunnel.

Put these guys into the team, give them ample ground time and LEAVE THEM THERE for the rest of the season. If PAgan fails to see that this needs to be done then it will be the beginning of the end for him. I don't care if we get beaten every week, these guys must play at the HIGHEST level to improve...

He was a guest speaker on Carlton Club Corner, he said that he never knew the flooding existed. He really was suprised when he played his first game for the Ants. I think he may have hurt Penguins feelings and that is why he was on the ground for the very short time he was.

Agree on Kennedy, Betts and Carazzo.....

Its woeful what is happening to the young players....Eddie would have learnt something playing on a player like Mcleod....things he couldnt be taught at training...
Carazzo is better than VFL footy and Kennedy needs experience...what was the harm in leaving him at CHF and letting him learn ...give Murphy a target at CHF to kick to....no Waite and No Fisher yet Kennedy cant command some decent game time.....I cant work it out....

Make Pagan director of coaching and let Micthell be match day coach....lets not waste another year while our youngsters get nowhere...

Kennedy is still only 18 and yet there are calls to play him at centre half forward! Not sure what planet you guys are on but anything more than a cameo role given his lack of preparation and dodgy shoulder is borderline irresponsible. He should be doing his apprenticeship in the Bullants ... building his body and confidence rather than being constantly on the end of physical punishment and substandard midfield delivery. The occasional seniors appearance in a pocket or off a flank will introduce him to senior level. Asking him to solve our problems in year 1 of his career is madness.

RE Carazzo ... has been ok without setting the world on fire in the 1s and the chance to play a full game on-ball in the 2s would be good for his fitness and overall development ... still think he's our specialist back pocket though.

Sorry Dukes, not sure what planet you are on but exposure to top line sport is what makes for top line players. He is not lacking the physical attributes. No one is asking him to fix our problems in year 1 - you are right, that would be MADNESS. But if our problems are to be fixed sooner rather than later than the senior apprenticeship must start now. The sooner he gets to 50 games the better....(not 50 games with only 30 mins played each game). He is good enough.....play him.

RE CArrazo: agree he should have a full game, playing on the ball...in the seniors!! NOw THAT would be even better for his fitness and development.

Their development is being stunted in the reserves and on the bench. And as a consequence we are going no where - just "shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic".

Spend too long playing an inferior level of sport and you will become an inferior player. "

It’s the same ‘development’ technique that we’ve used on ALL draftees over the past few years. Win yourself the ‘opportunity’ in the seniors with good form in the 2’s and on the track only to find that opportunity’ means limited game time in a nothing role and first dropped the following week (injuries to Waite and Fisher may have saved Josh in this case).

Until we can actually provide an example of a player we HAVE developed I have complete sympathy for players such as Davies, Sporn, Livingston, Wiggens. Fortunately Kris Massie got a second chance.

Hey this proceedure worked for Brett Lee cant see why it wouldn't work for a Footballer

Brett Lee was 12th man about 10-20 test in a row wasn't he.

Super coach Pagan is adopting the same tactic.

Keep them on the bench so they cant watch and learn from the experts

You're on a hiding to nothing no matter what you do. The only way DP can win, is to win  .

I see some positives in taking him to Adelaide to experience the travel, the ground the pace - but give him 120 minutes and he could quite easily be scarred for life.

Lots of you say 'play all the kids', but would then scream like pigs when we get belted by 30 goals. Bring them on slowly, a couple of weeks at a time and with any luck they'll all come up together.

And ...... why was Bentick only given 75 mins TOG?

He was getting plenty of it and is one of the few able to win contested ball in close and use it well. He needs to learn from being out there!!

Ohh, I forgot .... he made a mistake at one stage. That must be why ..... he was a very naughty boy and needed to be punished!!

just back from injury - wouldn't have anything to do with doing too much last year?

Roughheadstruggling at times, doing well at other times, why?

How's young Zack going?

Zack eh???

Thats what you can come up with... Zack Dawson???

Denis is a good coach cos Zac Dawson is skinny....

Why dont you show me who at Carlton is a proven solid footballer...???

Or just explain to me.. who looks more lost out on the turf... the Hawthorn kids or our kids???

now Synbad go back and reread - find in this thread where I said Denis was a good coach. I am merely curious about all the development experts sprouting up on this site and wondering if there are many things to consider when playing kids.

oh and Synners, I have all my own words, no need for you to try and put any in my mouth.

I think both Simpson and Walker have been brought along slowly and I think are starting to reap the benefits of it. Both have been played in a variety of roles and are not out of their depth going down back or up forward or on ball. All qualities you need in the new game where coaches try to get their players to take you to positions where you can be exploited or are not comfortable.

I think Kennedy is getting a taste but with a limited preparation for this year and as mentioned recovering from a shoulder injury he shouldn't be expected to be a saviour up forward. He's got a taste, shown a bit and now realises what the pace is, endurance required and the strength he is going to have to develop to hold his ground against AFL defenders.

Blackwell Bentick Murphy Betts Fisher Russell Carrazzo have all been given a chance and are playing more games and getting more game time than they probably would at a top team. I'm also fairly certain that if fit Bower Hartlett and Raso will also be given a taste before the end of the season.

Post subject:  I AGREE WITH Dannyboy

Not sure those super -impressive Hawthorn youngsters are doing much better than ours - roughhead franklin lewis havent collectively been very good this year and all have spent time in the VFL -
Everett Mitchell Hodge Croad bateman williams jacobs crawford all played really well early and thats how they won the early games -all have tapered off recently
Agree that it is easier playing for Hawthorn as a youngster if those guys are firing and they are more talented as a core than our core/older players and have performed better this season
Hence they have won 4 to our 2 games at this stage - not sure that there will be many games difference between us and the hawks come year end e

Really???

You think their second year players and our second year players are even steven do you so far in their careers?
and doubling our win / loss ratio after 9 games is not effective in showing where they are?

Look, i reckon were going OVERBOARD pretending everything is going along just nicely...
