Most of us know Carlton's financial position. I have come up with a couple of ways how the carlton football club can save/make money.. These may not save millions but every dollar counts.. so here it goes - every carlton member receives a cap, why doesnt carlton get their sponsor 'nike' to make this cap for them and add it in as apart of their sponsorship. Thus, carlton dont pay for the hat, and nike recieves more publicity as every carlton member is walking around with a nike hat. Some people may think this is stupid, but when you think about it, 30,000 hats at say $5 cost is costing CFC $150,000 - Like all clubs, carlton have testimonial dinners for outgoing legends. ( i went to braddles, and sos's) and they charge in excess of $150 for the night. On these nights they showcase video footage of the players career, have special guest speakers and serve a dinner. I understand these are great fund raisers and make lots of cash for the club. I propose in ADDITION to this, they show the same video footage, have guest speakers, but do not include a meal and have it at a more feasible venue. Imagine sitting on Level 2 of telstra dome on a weekday, watching video footage of Kouta for example. Past and present players then get up and each have a say about kouta. They auction some memorabilia and 3 hours later you go home a happy person. $50 entry and I bet you will have 5000 people there. -to increase the sales of football jumpers we should have players nicknames on the back of their jumpers and retail them for $130 instead of $110. Imagine walking around in no25 with "shag" on the back of your jumper. I have done my research and the biggest revenue for soccer clubs and basketball teams around the world is their jerseys. Lets make this the case for cartlon football jumpers.. - After every game the CFC should auction off players jumpers and boots worn during the game and get them signed. On average i presume they would get around $250 for each jumper and $400 for each pair of boots. If someone played extrememly well they would fetch more. EG if fev kicked 8, im sure someone would pay above the odds for his signed boots. These are just a few small things I have thought of how carlton can save/make money. Would like to hear your thoughts on my ideas and hear anybody elses.... |

Some really good ideas there jongon, good stuff. I reckon by doing this after each game the items will really not fetch anywhere near the 250 or 400 you're quoting - they go for the high values at the moment because they're rare. Making them available after every game will soon change that! The other stuff though is the sort of thinking our club needs right now! |

Seeing as most of our list is made up with U18 players from recent years, let's pinch the TAC from the Pies. With quality leaders like Murph, Walker, Bentick, Simmo etc we should be able to project a good clean young male image that those dirty pies can't. .....and we could do it cheaper

Better idea: Sack Pagan pick up the 7/1 on Pagan being the first coach sacked in 2006. Lay $1 mil on it and we collect $7 mil .....presto our financial situation is solved. And we do not need the AFL"S assistance. |

ubettsya, its negative people like you that we don't need at the club. Italian styles, would you pay $150 for it. Say a third of our members buy these jumpers 10,000 members each buying a jumper at $150 every jumper has their favorite players nickname and number on the back.. easy ways to make money |

Sportsbet are already onto this. They put out a statement a few weeks ago saying they only accept bets up to $5K and any series of bets of that nature would end up with a suspension of trading. Next...

The Sexy Squad boys paid $170 to buy me a guernsey for my birthday made for Setanta to wear in the Collingwood Vs Carlton herritage match last year. Obviosuly he didn't play so the club sold those jumpers and thats what i have. Even if they didn't but it for me i would have got it myself, i would definitely pay $150 with the number 3 and Murph. |

How about they organise tours of the 'inner sanctum' at MC Labour Park. Obviously they would be done on a day when the facilities weren't being used. Get one of the old boot studders or even a past player to take the punters through the board room, change rooms etc. Spin a few 'war stories' on the way about things most of us tragics wouldnt know. Maybe give tourists the opportunity to get a photo with a premiership cup, or in front of their favourite player's locker. Obviously the tour ends in the Carlton Shop. Apparently you can do this at loads of the Premier League team's grounds etc. If it was reasonably priced and at a manageable time I'd definately be lining up there with the kids!!!! Might not be a huge money spinner, but there'd have to be loads of Blues supporters that come here from interstate/overseas etc that'd be up for it. I noticed in the 'Inside Carlton' mag in the Carlton Shop brochure that there was a bag of stuff that you could buy that included a tour of the rooms. Although I didnt really need the bag of stuff for $500, I actually thought about it just to get the tour! |

Appreciate the enthusiasm "jongun" It is good to hear a little passion instead of the usual ranting. Although I must admit ranting is fun 
I reckon that the Carlton marketting department needs to have a look at itself. Unfortunately the Bummers and the Wobblies leave us for dust in that department. |

i sometimes take a look in the ol carlton shop near uni, it's usually empty save for the lady inside watching endless replays of the 2005 wizard cup grannie anyway, the kangaroos had an idea where they stuck the players nicknames on the bag of their training guernseys and then flogged them at auction, it was a revenue raising thing, it'd cost the club minimal, if they did it at the end of the season it would be nothing, i'd be prepared to fork out for something like that, as opposed to a 1500 to 1 chance for a subaru, cept, they'd all be massive sizes, so you'd have to be massive, (though i am massive, other people may be shrimps and prawns and thus have to fight over eddies one) |

I know we probably all have a collection of the classic Carlton Grand Finals on DVD or video, but I'm always amazed at how crappy the presentation is on these programs... Like they do on movie DVDs, how about releasing the series with Parkin, Sticks, Jezza etc doing a commentary feature. Where are the stories from behind the scenes all these years later. How fascinating would it be to hear Rhys Jones thoughts on how he approached Dermie in 1987 GF? Robert Walls and Parko on the changes pulled during the games etc... Easy to do and cheap to manufacture... Geez, who's running our marketing department????

How about we set up like this fantastic website full of details of all our greats, all the great games, all our Premierships etc. add some photos, some charts on who wore what jumpers... and give it to the Club? They could get advertising from it, hit count, even use if to promote their brand and even the Hall of Fame dinners? |
