Post subject: | WOLFISTER'S WEEKLY ONE CENT STATS - Round 2 |
Welcome to Round 2 (Issue 51) of Wolfister's Weekly one cent stats. It's been a big week down at the big blue house at the bottom end of town... I tell you what, the sight of 27 egg heads going on an Easter egg hunt around the office is something to behold... they have now compiled a report outlining the probability of eggs turning up in every possible spot in the office and sent it to the Easter bunny for next year. And on top of that, they've come up with the following... Carlton and Essendon* have met 220 times, and, as you'd expect, the record is very even (just as it was not 4 rounds ago when last we looked at these stats!). The Blues have won 114 of these clashes (51.8%) at PM+144. In recent times, we've won 2 of our last 5 (PM-98), and 4 of our last 10 (PM-175). This round will be the 24th time in a row that we've played the Bombers at the MCG, winning 10 of the 23 encounters at PM-175. Overall these 2 sides have met at the G 41 times for 17 wins (PM-329). Unfortunately our Round 2 record is one of the few that is worse than our Round 1 records! We've won 53 of our 107 Round 2s (49.5%) at PM+634 (this ranks Round 2 at 22nd - one of only 3 Rounds that are under 50& - and the other 2 are Rounds 23 and 24, which of course, are no longer played!). In recent times our Round 2s haven't been too bad, winning 2 of our last 5 (PM-24) and 5 of our last 10 (+21) - which includes a big last up win against the Cats at Optus Oval. This will be the 11th time we've played in Round 2 at the MCG, winning 5 times (plus a draw) at PM+36, and the 9th time we've met the Bombers in Round 2 (for 4 wins and 2 draws at PM+120). This will be only the third time we've met Essendon* at the MCG in Round 2 - winning 1 of our previous starts (1996), and drawing the other one - yes that was the infamous Kernahan after the siren incident of 1993... I still have nightmares over that one (most involving the time that I yelled at James Cook in a practise match at Waverley the following year when he kicked one out on the full with a few seconds to go "Oh he's done a Kernahan".... forgetting completely that Sticks was sitting 2 rows in front of us...). Round 2 also kicks off our April tilt for 2004. We've played 225 matches in April, winning 131 of these (58.2% at PM+2763), making April our 5th most successful month on record - which is better than March's 50-50 record (which is now, of course, below 50% thanks to last week!). April Fool's day's not been the best hunting ground for the Blue boys, winning only 1 of our 4 starts at PM-164 - the only win coming against Fitzroy in 1972. This makes April 1 our 182nd most successful playing day. Our last April 1 start was in 2000, where we got done by the Bulldogs at the Docklands. We've never met the Bombers on April 1, however we have played once at the MCG on April 1 - back in 1978 where we were thumped by Richmond. Despite this, the 1st of the month is reasonably successful, winning 43 of our 68 starts (63.2%) at PM+482 - the 12th most successful day of the month for us. Till next week remember that 72.5% of statistics used to watch wrestling in the 80s. Wolf out. |

I reckon if you put Wolfy and tommi in a room together for 12 hours with nothing but a pen and some paper you'd come up with a guaranteed best seller! ![]() |
