OK so the split round originated from the State of Origin, and is a welcome break for players, but should it be retained?

The way they work it, there are six games in the first week, and two in the second. Talk about your footy drought! Could it not be four-and-four?

Personally, I would like to see the State of Origin return, and for it to be a round-robin with reps from all States. But I understand the implications of a "who cares" game which could result in a serious injury - just like the Who Cares Cup in the pre-season.

teams that play in the 2nd week get disadvantaged because the team they are playing has also had a break and then when there playing the week after they're playing teams that have had 2 weeks off

They dont have state of Origin because the older players need a break to get over there little injuries etc.

I would love State of Origin to be back, but having this problem it would occur every year.

I reckon the AFL should introduce an under 23 State of Origin replacing the split round, (like Soccer in the Olympic games)

I think it would be great to see the future AFL stars playing with more confidence and playing bigger roles than normal. We would get glimses of who really has great leadership for there age. It could also be a yardstick for further developing the young players.

Imagine Murphy, Deledio, Roughead etc vs Tabling, Griffen, Franklin etc

It damn well should be. Not only for the players - clubs playing in wk 2 can play against more than 2 different clubs the following week - but for the TV audience. Sure, it'll shit Fox that all 8 matches in a round can be put on FTA, but as someone who doesn't have it, the more FTA footy the better.

Good idea in concept - but a lot of these youngsters suffer from OP especially moving into their second season - I dont think scheduling a game for them mid-seasons would be the ideal therapy.

i floated an idea when a few of us attended st kilda v adelaide the other night....

a 4 year season playing 52 weeks a year....the fifth year, the top 8 teams play all year round in a huge finals series....the last weekend of the year is the grand final....then everyone has a year off.....ready to commence again next january...

solves all problems i reckon.
