Just and observation of the Bulldog's game that Sentanta several times kicked the ball like you would in an international rules games(Bit like the way Soccer goal Keepers kick the ball when they do a kick in) You think after 3 years in the game that habbit would be out of his game. As a result a lot of his kicks being worm burner's I dont think he is up to AFL standard at this stage. Did a few good things but not enough.Put him back into the reserves so he can continue his education for the game.

Yeah dropping the ball very loosely. You would think that some one like Prender who has been in the system for years would do something to correct this style!?! You would also think that he would do this to save his AFL career but unfortunately it is all too late. Not only that his bad habbits are rubbing off on other player's Ie Sentanta.

in fairness to prender he started footy when he was 16 but he has been playing footy now for a good 8 or 9 years and should be able to kick better than that, it's not hard.

His kicking looked shitloads better than Bret Thorntons today.

The thing about Setanta I like is that he might not kick the ball correctly, but he is always trying to improve it at training

to me it looks like he stops and pivots on his leg for a long time and then really winds up before he kicks it, he needs to make it more smooth IMO and that may not be such an easy thing to do for a person so foreign to our game.

You would reckon he should have a few mates out there joining him too!

Yes Setanta needs some work but i have to agree with the call on Prenda. His kicking style is worse and he takes longer to wind up. Fish i have to say needs work on his style too - takes too long in general play to get boot to ball.

I just have to scratch my head and work out what Setanta will learn in the reserves? We've got a fully matured body, professional sportsperson with the most impressive pace / frame on the list. His shortcoming is 'understanding of the game' - why demote him? To learn to kick? Doesn't that just strike you as wrong?

Setanta competed very well with Grant - a very experienced, wiley and skilled footballer, and was very good on the day.

COntrary to one poster's view last week, Setanta was also serviceable against the Cats.

He must be perservered with. Id play him every game until the end of 2007 and make a decision then.

I agree.
What pleased me was his 'vision' when he had the ball. Under pressure he quickly found players to deliver to, and didn't miss too many. Kicked a good goal too that many of his teamates would've fluffed. He's got a lot of 'little things' to learn about the game at AFL level but that will come with gametime.
Must be persevered with IMO.

For me probably the most disappointing aspect is watching his team mates hesitate and look for an alternative option rather than take the first option which is to pass the ball to Setanta.

I noticed that on a fe occasions as well.
I thought that he played quite well though. Looked really settled in defence and used his body well on occasions. Could be a really good player if he can get his kicking right.

Similar thing happened a couple of times with Aisake yesterday - he'd be in the clear by 20 metres but would be ignored.

Although that may have been because he wasn't very forward of the kicker and it was a trifle slippery (in other words, no real advantage gained by kicking to him)

Maybe Setanta can improve his kicking a bit but he is already as good a kick as half the side. Carrazzo did half a dozen abysmal kicks yesterday, three cost goals and their were several others in same boat. Setanta did one clearing kick that was almost intercepted but the Blues won the ball anyway and he shanked his second shot at goal, but given that stevens managed to miss from 20m under no pressure, I wouldn't be too critcial. All his other disposals were effective. I watched Setanta closely yesterday and thought he was terrific. The Bullies had a match up they wanted against Grant who took him to the square but Setanta didn't give him a sniff.

He has played a total of about half a dozen games in defence and is improving enormously and if his teamates would look for him instead of meandering back into trouble and coughing it up we could use his run more effectively. I notice David King on AW gave him 8/10 so he saw something a few Carlton supporters seem to be missing.

T-Bird looked out to the back pocket, saw Setanta on his own, then looked back to the other pocket and gave it off - to someone who was under more pressure than Setanta
