Pagan reminds me of a world class batsmen who is facing a world class bowler.

No matter how hard or how fast your bowl at him, he just keeps deflecting everything away.

So is Pagan good at developing young kids or is he just waiting to draft some elite talent?

The story got a good run on the channel 10 news. Just stating the rumours, namely bringing in Ratten as an assistant which Denis would find untenable and resign. Or that a mystery benefactor would pay out his contract.

The usual Internet sourced crap.

I think based on that comment I wouldnt worry about missing the PP.....he wants the draft picks like most of us......whateva emphasis he placed on winning games to save his career has been replaced by winning at the draft IMHO....never before have I read a coach use the draft as a saviour...
Bryce Gibbs will equal winning the wizard cup to Pagan and co and politically he will use it to sell the supporters the message that he is a winner...

Wasn't there a story doing the rounds a few weeks back that Ratten would have no problems working as an assistant under Denis?

Pagan is right, we are a good draft or two away from having a decent list. Why the hell would anyone want to sack Pagan now? It would be great to finish last next year and get picks 1+2. Then Pagan in 2008 has a chance to show us what he's got, if he doesn't perform he is gone in 2009. Picks 1,17,19 in this draft and picks 1,2,18 in 2008 then the 'talent' on our list will be as good as anyones.

After five years of misery I am more than happy to go one more round.

Why wouldn't you sack him now. After 5 years of misery out the door would do me just nicely. What a nice change that'll be. I'd like the team to actually start winning. you just get sick of the crap year after year, defeat after defeat. He lost the players long ago, as alluded to by Herald-Sun journo Greg Denham on SEN with KB this morning, and while he's there we'll go no-where.

We don't want to go anywhere next year. Winning 6 or 7 games next year would be a DISASTER. In the 2007 draft we can add another Marc Murphy AND Josh Kennedy to our list or we can add another Jordan Russell. With the AFL so even these days another one or two top liners might be the difference between finishing 6th and winning the flag. WE DONT WANT TO BE SITTING HERE IN 2011 SAYING IF ONLY WE'D WON 3 LESS GAMES IN 2007. We have a chance to milk the early priority pick next year - its the system the AFL want, we have to rort it for all its worth.

If we don't win games soon we may not see Carlton Football Club in 2011.

The channel 10 story basically said that Pagan was pissed off with Ratten for quiting mid-season and that their relationship was so bad that Pagan would probably quit if Ratten was forced on him as an assistant.

Probably all bollocks, Liam, but that was what was reported.

As an aside, when did journalism change from investigating romours and reporting when there was corroboration to simply reporting rumours?

Sad isn't it? That's why complete shit like Big Brother, The Fattest F#*king Loser on the Planet and Current Affair are popular. All the same program really. Same ethic. A sniff of blood or bullshit and out comes the spotlight.

What if it is not just the older guys who are in dispute with Pagan, but some of the young kids, seriously looking at their options at the end of their contracts?

Maybe the players are of the thinking that if they lose enough games, the Board will sack him.

Not likely with his contract.

Up until yesterday, it was quiet AFL news week, hence the coverage on Pagan. Now that the Collingwood brawl is big news, the Pagan story will go away.

And Jim, Greg Denham writes for The Age.

Carlton God - are you being serious?

Lets throw away next year and develop our losing culture even further - just so Pagan can get some more early draft picks so in 5 years time we can make the finals and he can say 'I told you so, see, I am a good coach'!

F%$k him I say!

Whether we like it or not.... we will gain another PP next year.

It will most likely be one of the youngest sides ever.`...

If you win a priority pick in the second round .. year one.
And in year 2 you gain one in the first round as used to be the case... what happens after that?
Do you start again or continue on?

I think continue on. The rule is about concurrent years and the idea is that if you're that bad you really need help. I don't think there's anything in there suggesting you have to start the process again.

So,

Let's tank 07, 08 and 09 and we'll have 3 more pick 1s and three more pick 2s...

The problem with all the naysayers in here is that they just don't see that three number one picks is the modern equivalent of three premierships. :-D

Is that why Saints' fans are happy with falling short under Thomas? :P

Grant Thomas was interviewed by Rohan Connolly last week and was asked about the belief that the Saints might be missing their window of opportunity.

Thomas said something along the lines of "We're not a timeclock club".

Somehow St. Kilda are apparently immune from the realities of the football world such as the fact that drafting is more difficult when you're finishing higher up the ladder. Considering their recruiting over the last few years I'd say that clock might actually be ticking a little louder if they haven't won a flag by the end of next year.

Connolly "The Analyst" showed how truly pathetic he is as a "journalist" by not following that comment up at all. Even Caroline Wilson's pet hamster would have been able to ask the obvious question "What makes St. Kilda different?"
