We have been competitive virtually every week this season, bar the St Kilda game and the first half against the Power.
I know the doomsayers will say there hasn't been any improvement, but surely with a young group our competitiveness EVERY WEEK has been quite amazing.

Wasn't the Collingwood game a bit of a mess, Josh? Can't remember.

Regardless, we've gone from wondering whether we'll be beaten by 100 points each week to wondering at what point in the last quarter we'll shit ourselves and lose by a couple of goals

Yeah, that's improvement. It's just hard to feel it, you know? But I reckon you're on the $$$

One or two others where we weren't too flash but overall I agree.

Actually that's what most people were saying was all they expected at the start of the year and yet still the majority seem unsatisfied.

Who would have thought...? :lol:

I've been very happy with the effort the guys have been putting in every week. Prior to this year I thought we were giving up way to easy.

To me the best possible result this year was being competitive in most games and for 5 or 6 young guys to step up.

That has happened.

... and at the same time we are also going to get some good picks.

I can understand the arguments of the tankers, and it might still come to pass. But if we were losing this many games with an ageing list and very few young players stepping up then things would be really depressing.

The Carlton football club just has to stick with a simple philisophy, use the picks in the 1st 2 rounds on young players year after year and develop them as best we can.

Something we have only been doing since 2004, we have a lot to look forward to.

Like last year and 2003, our percentage is still in the mid-70's. Means we're getting pumped somewhere.

You're right, Get Wells Sometime - and I enjoy a chuckle about that point myself from time to time. but in fairness to those judging our performance harshly at the moment, it's fair to say that one's goals and associated goalposts tend to change as the year goes on

My expecations have fluctuated wildly throughout the year. Getting through the rest of the year without injuries is all I ask now

no doubt there have been some great individual performance this year and a number players have improved and taken their game to the next level.

Fevola, Scotland, Simpson, Bentick, Walker, Whitnall and others and Murphy has been a huge positive.

the question remains as a whole and as a team, is there any improvement... not sure

Yes the majority of the players each week have given 100% and we've been thereabouts on the scoreboard a lot but our brand of football and skill level has been woefull for a long time.
Improvement in youngsters such as Simmo & AW has come about because they've been given gametime and have learnt & picked up the tempo because they've been given minutes. Unfortunately some of our other talented kids haven't been afforded the same amount of valuable minutes and exposure.
