Last week at the Telstra Dome there were 17,000 Carlton supporters, this week the crowd was 24,000. Probably reasonable to assume there was about 17,000 Carlton supporters there yesterday.

What the hell is wrong with Melbourne supporters? Their team is/was flying, but unless they can sit in their favourite seat in the members at the G it seems Melbourne supporters aren't interested.

I really question what benefit it is to the competition to make clubs like us and Essendon* ordinary for the benefit of giving some on field success to a largely disinterested Melbourne supporter base. Having said that, someone has to finish last every year, but I think the edge has really gone off Victorian footy by compromising everything so that everyone gets their turn near the top.

Unfortunately many of the Vic clubs are culturally and structurally unable to be successful (can you really imagine Richmond or Geelong or St Kilda not self sabotaging an attempt to win a flag?). The West Coasts and Adelaides must just get behind closed doors and giggle at the advantages they have and the dilution of the Victorian power clubs. (ie no home ground advantages, no surprise rookies like Cox, Bock, Mattner, Brogan etc etc, the burden of club cultures, the lack of access to funds).

To be sitting 3rd on the ladder and only have 7 to 8,000 of your supporters at a game played at a venue in the CBD says their is something fundamentally wrong with either the club or the overall product.

Same goes for the Kangas who can only get 20 odd thousand to a final and 14,000 to their game today.

I reckon if we were sitting third on the ladder you could guarantee a packed Telstra Dome.

In North's defence, 14,000 people is probably 12,000 North supporters - or half their membership - and 2,000 Port supporters.
So, proportionally speaking, they're doing okay.

Melbourne supporters have an excuse for not turning up, of course... The same reason only 15,000 Carlton people turned up - Generally speaking, we're @#$%&! awful to watch.

I sent an SMS to a MFC support friend of mine after the game.

I said " Can we play your team everyweek?"

His reply "Up at the snow. Did No: 12 play okay for the Dees?"

Now that's a REAL MFC supporter for you

Not sure about how many but there seemed to be plenty of Melb supporters there.

I thought last week's crowd was the lowest at TD for the year so looks like the kangas have 'beaten' that.

Good thread.

I was thinking the same thing. If the two teams positions were reversed and we were a top four side (and Melb on the bottom) the crowd would have been close to 40,000.
