Hartlett has been touted as our next key back but is he better up forward?

If he is suited up forward we have some decisions to make. Our forward line is fairly settled and we have several options - Fev, Waite, Fisher, Lance, Kennedy and possible Hartlett.

I believe Hartlett was successful as a forward in his junior days.

If this is the case we will need to recruit key position backman as Bower is more suited to a flank. Hansen apparently played ok on the weekend without staring and in fact was beaten in the third qtr.

while no one should really be judged by playing on kent kingsley....

i saw all i needed to see of Manfred in our NAB cup game against geelong this year.......

kingsley kicked a bag on thornton, and kicked ?1 goal on hartlett...

a huge unit...carltons next permenant full back, when fit.

I see Harts as being similar to Bradshaw-will be able to play both back and forward with great effect.

I would like to see him start at FB. Is definitely capable of playing at either end of the ground, but I would like to see him play predominantly as a tall defender. If we need him to, or if he isnt having a great day down back, then move him forward.

One of the things which almost convinces me that we have a gun on our hands is his versatility. Hope to see him debut before the end of the year, and barring injuries I expect him to be our starting FB come ound 1, 2006.

One of my favourite down at the club, not just because of his obvious talent, but also due to his outstanding work ethic. One thing that will stick in my mind is his look of pure despair when he injured his hammy during the year. Thi shows me his determination and burning desire to get out on the park and really succeed for the Blues. I remember he was tearing it up on the training ground before the start of the season, and he looked pretty good in the NAB Cup when he played.

Keep up the good work, Harts, I am sure you will be rewarded soon enough.

I would play him at CHF while Kennedy is injured and see how he goes....he is such a nice kick of the footy he could do very well....

I reckon his best spot will be ff.. or forward pocket.. and then full back.. when i watch him play he looks more of a kick mark type.

i dont think he is a CHF or especially a CHB...

id just really like to see him on the field. as many above have stated, he looked a likely type in the NAB cup. i guess id just like to see him played where hes most comfortable, where he best fits our structure at the time, if hes versatile thats excellent.

I'm glad he has managed to string together a few games without getting injured.

There is no footy god

Hartlett must have a big preseason for next year.He is starting on the bench in ants games so I cant see him playing senior blues footy this year.

I'd just like to see him on the park for 22 games. He was good this week in the VFL on the forwardline. Needs to keep working on his chasing and defensive game when we don't have the ball. One of the main things he has in him is abit of agro. Loves the physical stuff, which we need.

There are plenty at the club who can see he has talent and no doubt he will be given every opportunity if he can get fit and commit to being an AFL footballer 24/7.

I think he can play foward or back on the bigger power forwards.

Do I read in this statement that at some stage his committment to football was not what it should have been?

He was pretty cut up earlier on in the year when he got injured. Must be frustrating on the kid.

Some don't realise they are at 98% effort until they are told and realise what 100% looks like and what it takes to really succeed week in week out. 70% of all AFL listed players could probably do more to better themselves, whether it be the food they eat, the sleep they get and/or the extras they do on the track. The current AFL's stars are the ones who do everything right 99.9% of the time.

In the AFL you will not survive long on just the natural talent you had a junior.

The be a consistent 150-200 game player in the AFL you have to commit to the game 24/7. Simple fact. Early on Harts needed to get his head around what was required and decide if it was really for him. He has decided it is for him and he has been working extremely hard on his rehab from injuires and getting 100% fit again. He will have to continue with that mind set to get the very best out of himself, just as every young player on the Carlton list must do.

Football talent is football talent. The things that hold a player back are what's going on between his ears and injuries.

You could probably take that advice and transpose it onto any aspect of life as a plan for success.

Adam's personal preference is CHB. I don't think he is ready for a tryout this season. Needs plenty more "matchpractice". Still a bit rusty but improving with every Ants game.
