Look its great and all that...

So he'll only put money in if he gets a tax deduction? I guess that's how he got rich in the first place?

He is under no obligation to put in any money at all. I hardly think it's appropriate to criticise him for using the most cost effective mechanism.

As a percentage of my net worth I've put in a reasonable amount I reckon ;)

Just taking advantage of rules which have been in place for some time.

Good on him.

Thank you, Smorgon.

I reckon it's a bit rough to criticise the guy when he's putting money towards the new training facility. He'd cop it if he didn't and he cops it if he does.

I'm more interested about the line concerning the four term limit on board members. Seems a bit daft to try and scrap it 5 minutes after it was introduced. Sticks might be popular, but is he any good as a board member?!

I would have to agree as the reason this rule was introduced was to prevent what happened to our club in the first place.

The Yanks bought in a 2 term rule for their Presidents - specifically to stop a situation where they had an extremely popular 4 Term President in F.D. Roosevelt.

I know Sticks is popular and a club legend - but do we need to amend a rule so soon after bringing it in. :?

What's to stop Sticks stepping down from the board for a year, and being re-appointed a year later?

I'd rather see directors be churned after 4 terms than potentially entrench board members, a la JE.

Now, if only Smorgon can tip some of his cash into getting himself an on-air personality..... :?

How can you criticise the guy for putting money in to the club, when it was just last night that people were giving it to him for not doing so?

And now that he is, you're still giving it to him.

Man, some people are never happy.

Got that right, PJ.

Sand.

They want him to stay on because of the lack of football nous on the board.

The option, of course, is to find a suitably-credentialled candidate and endorse him to replace Kernahan.

Perhaps the amendment could be 4 terms or 10 years, whichever is greatest. I wouldn't be comfortable with a return to the open-ended nature of the previous arrangement.

I'd agree with that.

Are those changes to the contitutions/articles a matter to be voted on by members?

All changes to Constitution or articles must be voted on by those holding FULL VOTING MEMBERSHIP.

Say what you like about the bloke's personality/media savvy but as far as I am concerned he has put his $$ where his mouth is. We're not currently in a postion to be too choosy about where the $$ come from, so good on you Graham for tipping in!!

The board want Sticks on side, Pagan wants Sticks on side......

These people are well aware of the benefits of having an alliance with Kernahan. Sticks is loved by Carlton people and the powerbrokers are well aware of the "insulation" Sticks affords them.

As for smorgon, good on him. On one hand we've got a President who puts in big hours at the club and tips in his own cash to assist us. Remember, everything he does for the club and every hour he spends there is voluntary and time he could be spending with his family.

When Pagan gives up his 700 grand a year and tips in his own money, make Smorgon your target. Until then, value every cent his offers.

Everyone may have deficiencies but I see Smorgon working hard for the benefit of the club. He's now put his dough where it can help, so good on him.

We buy memberships to support the club or do what we can, where and when we can; he's done his bit and in doing so proven his heart and head are in alignment.

Now if he can get a big coterie group together to do the same ...

faill call that.

im not a big fan regards his approach, smorgon almost appeared to go from getting the presidency to asking for help in afl before he finished his acceptance speech.

however, he has put his money where his mouth is - well done to him :)
