This will fire the boys up to go out and beat Hawthorn. We just have to hope and pray that Pagan is thinking more long term rather than 'sticking it up the board', or whatever his agenda is, and pulls a few strings to throw the game.

While the anti-tankers all live in their fantasy world thinking that a couple of late season wins will give us unstoppable momentum for 2007, where we will conquor all and sundry; or they have their own selfish reasons like 'wanting to enjoy the train ride home singing the song', I won't be looking forward to getting that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach should it become evident after four rounds next year that its going to be another long year and we missed picking up a quality kid at 18.

I thought that's what deja vu was ??

No matter what you think of him, he's right.

Getting your jolly's over a few meaningless wins at the end of the season will only provide temporary pain relief from the extreme agony you'll be in by rounds 7-8 next year.

Everyone has had a gutful of losing, there's no doubt about it, but the AFL is offering some strong medicinal help so why not take it ?? And you know what the medicos say, if you don't tale the complete course of your tablets, the illness may not be completely eradicated and there is always a strong chance of a secondary bout.

Dear CG take two tablets and retire to a burning bush.

I am happy with events as they unfold understanding that I will have no influence upon them.

You and shieky dieky while scribbling obscure messages upon tumbling temple walls fail to grasp a simple concept so please read what comes next slowly.

Read it three or four times

even more if you must

maybe write it down on some parchment

bury the parchment in a cave

go to sleep for a millenium or two

then reread the sacred script

good luck

oh and you two together disprove the old adage that two heads are better than one. 8)

Aaahh, Danny-Fanny, in your desperate pursuit to dazzle the "Throng of Nong", you seemingly forgot to actually pass on whatever your piece of enlightened advice was.

Stick to riding the trains, it's cheaper and less taxing on the grey matter.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. You know it is better to lose, however you have justified in your own little head that because you have no influence you can sit there yelling and screaming for a Carlton win and not feel guilty about it. This is like saying you wouldn't feel guilty about taking ecstasy because you are unsure if it will do damage to you, when deep down you really know it will.

As far as I can tell this is not a discussion its just a slanging match - convinvce me otherwise or it goes in the trash and you all get cosy on the naughty step

Well I started a thread with a very reasonable point about how Carlton would try harder to beat Hawthorn now that Essendon* won last night and it means we might miss a priority pick.

Then you made some smart arse remark about deja vu.

Then someone supported my argument and tried to educate.

And then dannyboy basically came along and hijacked the thread and turned it into a slanging match.

Then I tried to educate him about the way he was thinking.

Yep, fair comment Mel.

From my persepective, it was a reasonable discussion until someone decided to turn it into a personal slanging match as per usual.

I think that most people expect us to beat Hawthorn, as we have been playing well over the past month or so, and Hawthorn have been quite poor. :-D

No matter what the result is, 50% of the Blues supporters will be in raptures (or singing on trains etc) for whatever their belief is and the other half will completely shattered.

What a dilemma, we are desperate for better footy players and need a PP , but a win is such an important tonic for the team.
My gut feel is we may just sneak in against the Hawks, will be close.. ..and that's about it for the year.
What then????? the shit will really hit the fan if wer're bottom and miss out on PP.
May just show how unfair and Inflexible the draft is.
Up the Mighty Blues
Ciao

Richmond God, not many 17-20's since 2001 that's turned out to be great. That includes the superdraft of 2001. A few here and there have come along pretty well (Kelly, Selwood, Polo) but most have been ordinary.

Here are draft selections 17 - 20 from each of the the last 5 drafts:

2005

17 - Darren Pfeifer
18 - Max Bailey
19 - Courtney Dempsey
20 - Paul Bower

2004
17 - Andrew Mcqualter
18 - Cameron Wood
19 - Ryan Willits
20 - Dean Polo

2003
17 - Billy Morrison
18 - Llane Spanderman
19 - David Mundy
20 - Sam Butler

2002
17 - Cameron Faulkner
18 - Kris Shore
19 - Troy Selwood
20 - Will Minson

2001
17 - James Kelly
18 - Shane Harvey
19 - Jason Gram
20 - Daniel Elstone

Yes, really worth tanking for!! Prefer to win and promote a rookie such as Smith, Jackson or Flint. We have enough youngsters on the up and up. As well we haven't played a couple of last years pick nor Hartlett either. One more second round pick is really going to see us roar up the ladder. Yea sure! Especially alot of the one's with the quality of those above. But I'm guessing this isn't going to sink into your loser's mentaility. You give me a reason to laugh loudly at least.

Actually you started a thread that you have attempted at least once before with fairly catastrophic results, which had languauge and connetations deliberately designed to stir up certain posters

then the fish started to bite....if you dont like the response either post somewhere else or contribute something other than shit stirring

Jim, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with my views, there is no need to take cheap shots or resort to name-calling. I am more than happy to debate the merits of your scenario as long as you remain mature and diplomatic during the process.

you've got it wrong, no one is worried about the things you have mentioned above, no one's enjoyed a train ride home for the last 5 years im sure it wnt matter if they didnt enjoy another couple of train rides home for the next month of footy, no one's worried about the momentum going into next year next year's a brand new year of footy we had momentum when we won the wizard cup last year didnt prove to be that valuable during the home-and-away season. i can tell you that the majority of people want to win this game because 3 spoons in 5 years is dreadful. no one wants another spoon they hurt. i can understand your point about good draft picks and how people like me who want wins then go onto say how much we love players the likes of murphy, kennedy, walker etc. but esp. this year i dont want to finish last, i want a superstar CHB in hansen and we'll get that with a no.2 pick, if you're worried about getting a priority pick for next year before the first round then you're kidding yourself coz next yea we WILL win more than 4 games, like jim pointed out history shows there isnt much value with no.17-20 picks and we are going to get a pick in there regardless of how many games we win. i know i'd be shattered if we were to win another spoon.

but that's crap we always try to win, last nights game makes zero difference. 'Tanking' is something fans came up with to help cope with the fact their club is s#$%.

It's not a reasonable discussion, it's an irrelevent one.

Fair go Mel, judging by the fact that other posters are contributing to the discussion (regardless of their point of view) in a reasoned manner, it would seem like a topic that people still want to talk about. The only time it went off the rails was when someone decided to get all cute and fire off a cheesy know-it-all broadside.

It's a little unfair to aim your gun at the original poster in this instance as he (to date) isn't at fault.

Many previous coaches have come out and said that teams adopt a youth policy so that they can pick up a priority pick. The AFL have changed the priority pick rules because they believe teams have been tanking. What more evidence do you need?

And if we are really this crap we need a priority pick more than ever.
