Like all was very dissapointed with our loss to the Hawks after a encouraging performance the week earlier i think someone wrote most dissapointing game for the year and i tend to agree.
So with the hope of ending the year on a high bein now almost useless i guess it should be just a total look at 2007
Winning against the hawks could have been a good run and i would have been happy with ending with 2-4 wins but loosing to the Hawks has deflated that plan

i agree now no real choice but to get some benefit from the Draft regardless of if we are 15th or 16th

Aim to get 3 top picks in top 20 and use the 3rd rounder for a F/S prospect if there is a good option i think we have 2-3 to choose from in J.Williams / Sheldon / Johnston

Total review of the Coaching panel in which hopefully there will be some changes and finishing bottom 4 in 4 years must be seen as unacceptable and requires some change to show that we have acknowledged our poor results.

Expected List changes My opinion only but sure people will have there own thoughts

Delist / Trade if any value
Teague - Delist
Chambers - Delist
Longmuir - Delist
Sporn - Delist / Trade
Livingston - Delist / Trade
Saddington - Cut losses failed option
Davies - Delist due to LTO

Possible Delist / Trade if any value
Prender - Borderline but will prob be delisted
Banister - Done enough to remain
Wiggins - Done enough to retain
Magrath - Done enough to retain
French - Possible retire
Kouta - $200 - 250K max but club stand firm and if his heart not in it then retire best option

Another strong showing in the draft and also possible elevation from Rookies like Flint / Jackson / Smith for 2007

With the end of the silly contracts we should be able to look at possible options in the PSD - which ople may have a better list
* Gardiner - possible ruck option if French goes if he is fully checked and is put on a contract that protects us from any off field behaviour from his history - May be out to redeem himself and resurrect his career
* Kelly from Geelong have heards he may be someone to target and is out of contract and hasnt been played much in the seniors this year from Geelong - has pace
Sure there are others and people can add to the list of option but we should have money if a big name player comes available and is worth the investment.

Final 3 games of the Year - Play Smith / Bower so they have some taste of Senior standard level.
Suggest playing Maclaren and Bryan in the final 3 rounds to see how they perform together as when both are given more responsability as rucks they have been okay but when playing second fiddle to French have shown very little be good to see these 2 share the ruck duty for the final 3 games.

Outlook for 2007
I am hoping that finally we will start to emerge from the last 4 year extended nightmare lol
The porspects of 2007 sound better already hopefully after this 2006 end of season Draft and review
Players who should step up in 2007 properly barirng injury
Waite
Bentick
Betts
Simpson - stepped up
Fisher
Walker - starting to emerge

Next gen players
Murphy
Blackwell
Russell
Kennedy
Bower
Santanta

Other still unknown but may step up if given oppertunity.
Flint
Jackson
Smith
Edwards
Hartlett

i believe with the right mix in the draft, another pre-season in the 2-4 Year Players, possible good pick up in the PSD as we should be able to target someone we have to start a proper improvement and hopefully put these dark years behind us.

This year has shown bits of what we should be doing hopefully next year they will put on the field for 4 quarters not 1-2 quarters.

I think the improvement/development of "dark horses" like Edwards, Raso, Jackson and Hartlett (if he can stay injury free) will have a big say in how much we improve over the next few years.

I'd go hard for Meeson and Cam Wood in the PSD as we desperately need to solve our rucking problem. Otherwise it would be a real bonus to get Kelly.

I wouldnt put them in the same boat at all.
Gardiner has some rough edges but has proven he is able to play the game at the top level. his age is a concern with our new baby blues era emerging though perhaps he could be used to fill the gaps as we build so we can be competitive. better ruck option than anyone we currently have on the list.

I think Gardiner is a possible but i also think if any big name comes into the PSD we can offer a fair bit as we will struggle to even pay the minimum of the cap seeing that Koutas contract finally up

So we should target a good prospect in the PSD be good if people know who is available if there are any good prospects

Akawould be a better option than Gardiner.
Aka would take the best tagger which in turn would free up Stevens ,Simpson Murphy and allow Gibbs to come in and not have to worry about a Copeland bashing him up .
Aka would only be around for 2-3 years and that would allow our mid fielders to develop .

there is more upside to Aka than down side and Fev would then get his ton with Murphy and Aka delivering the ball to him

If we recruit Gardiner then we have well and truly lost it.It wont happen.Gardiner rarely plays in the ruck for Claremont because his knees are shot.

As I have said before our biggest concern is the ruck.Batson should be promoted although given his lack of opportunity in the ants ones I doubt he will be retained.I like the look of him.Is not too light on and has a good footy brain from what I have seen.At least he gives us another option in an area we are weak in.I dont know of any big guys in the super draft but we must recruit one for next year.

GuyMckenna on SEN last week said that he didnt think from what he knew that Gardiner can play ruck again...and if anything he is more a forward at best who can ruck in the forward line.....

so the answer to that question is simple NO Gardiner...

1. Assuming Pagan's staying, then the club needs to put at least one assistant under him who is capable of stepping up into the senior coaching role either at the end of Pagan's contract, or if the shit hits the fan mid 2007. At the moment, Pagan's assistants are in no way capable to doing this.

2. Try to get 4 picks in the top 20. Trade Whitnall to get this, while his decent first half of 2006 is fresh in other club's minds.

3. See what the rookies can do, and fast. Why Smith didn't play against Hawthorn is a mystery, given we only have 3 weeks to assess whether or not he's worth going forward with.

4. Retire Kouta. Another season is just nonsense for a player who's physically well past his best.

5. Establish a youthful leadership group. Perhaps consider appointing Fev for a season, as a 'probationary' captain. If he does a good job, he's got it again for another year, and so on.

6. Stop bitching and moaning about how poor we are. We know that already. Promote the positives of the club.

7. Conduct a total review of the football department, with independent people heading it up and reporting directly to the board (while Mike Fitzpatrick is in the room).

8. Start making the Princes Park redevelopment feel 'real' for people, because anything that engenders a sense of excitement for the future will directly benefit us in the here and now.

9. Send Mr. Fahour a really nice Christmas card, signed by all the players on the list.

10. Re-sign Murphy to a 3 year deal. He's shown enough already to suggest he's going to play 200 games of quality AFL football.

11. Actually try and land someone better than Dylan McLaren in the PSD.

I'd give this post of the month John except I'd go a bit harder on point 1.

I'm assuming the decision has already been made to promote him seeing as though he didn't play on Saturday.
If I'm wrong then football department decision making process is totally screwed up & the whole lot of them should be shown the door.

Yeah, I was trying to be realistic BV. I just couldn't imagine the club ditching Pagan one year into a 3 year deal. But if we're 1 and 8 next year, I'd say their hand would be forced.

Planning for 2007 should have been commenced in 1997.

That's not a bad idea 2ndEffort.

I wonder if we could elect a chatroom pseudonym to the board?

It'd be radical having a faceless, almost invisible non-person as President.

Or would it

Well I guess if they can have a computer generated cartoon character hosting a prime time variety show then why not!!!
