Look I'm sorry if everyone feels we've all been over this before but I'm interested in what your opinions are. Obviously we need a new captain for next year and the usual suspects have been bandied areound - Whitnall and Stevens (with Lance the favourite) - but personally I'm not sure the answer lies in these two.. Theres plenty of people who want to trade either or both of those two and Lance is having a rather quiet second half of the year opposed to his brilliant first half, can you really see him improving next year or performing inspirational acts on the field? I think a captain has to be a really class player OR bust his gut on and off the field. Now dont worry Im NOT suggesting Fevola but maybe just maybe Simpson? I know its a big call given its been his first full season but this guy shows more passion and maturity than many of our so-called leaders! Of course it would put a lot of pressure on the man but Im not so sure he couldnt handle it... If anyone has their own suggestions or ideas i'd be glad to hear them |

stevens wouldnt be bad. a poster earlier mentioned his spray at 1/2 time yesterday. he does this often, he marshalls the troops on the field also and, just to throw it in, is a pretty nice guy, a likeable chap. fevola is the new kouta in terms of being the 'face' of the club, so hed be a good choice. the maturity he has demonstrated is very telling. i would not at all mind him as captain. i wouldnt mind a long term captain, like a kernahan, someone who will lead the club for 10-12 yrs. this could be a simpson (doubtful) or a murphy (again, highly doubtful as he'll be 19 and playing is 13th AFL game as captain). unfortunently there arnt many young standouts, but thatll change very soon, when those guys get more games, they will naturally become the leaders of the club. whitnall isnt a bad choice, but in terms of a public figure, id rather stevens or fev. look at west coast, cousins should still be captain. |

LB I think we need someone who not only inspires thru his deeds but communicates to the troops the importance of playing each and every minute of every game, like it was their last. If we are talking about communication skills, then I say Red. If we are talking about deeds on the field, then I think Fev is your man. Therefore, I suggest co-captains in Fev and Red. As co-captains they need to spend quality time together off the field harnessing their strengths in leading our young team, so that when they speak, they speak as one voice. |

I reckon this is actually a really tough call. Sadly, from the outside, there does not appear to be a genuine candidate that is head and shoulders above the rest. IMO the closest to that at this point in time is Fevola. I'd certainly be happy for him to be made captain, but for every reason to justify this stance there's always a degree of nagging doubt in the back of my mind. However, it would make a nice development from the first meeting that Fev had with Pagan, shortly after Denis arrived at the club. To go from expected to be cut to captain in that time would be a great story. But will a great story make Fev a great captain? How will it be handled if Fev does have a brain fade. Maybe we just need to show some faith in our players. Naming Fev captain would require a lot of faith in his continuing improvement. |

It's a bloody hard choice. First half of the year I was all for Lance, but admitedly his second half has dropped off. I'd consider giving the captaincy to T-Bird actually. He does crack the absolute shits whenever he fails though & this could be a concern. Fev….not so sure. I thought he was magnificent yesterday in fighting back & finishing with 8, one of which was one of the better goals we'll see this year. But this was all preceded by a couple of dummy spits in the first half, & giving away a 50 after missing. I have been very impressed with him this year but I just don't know if turning things around for a season qualifies you for captaincy. Stevens I think is a very good player but winning one on ones isn't his strong suit & I think it should be for a captain. Lance or Thornton for mine - but without trying to sound too gloomy, I don't think there's a lot of choices there. |

CK95, I think the fact that Fev DID turn it around after the first few minutes indicates a strong sense of resolve. He could have quite easily reverted to form and sooked for the whole game but instead, he copped a spray from Pagan and pulled his finger out and I think that speaks volumes about how much he has turned his career around. If Fev did not have a brain explosion every now and again [and this year, it has only been once that I can recall and that was on the weekend] then I would seriously think there was something wrong with him. He shows passion and when he is fired up, so too is the team. Give him the job in conjunction with Red. |

The rest of the candidates all have big question marks against them for a variety of reasons but the only one against Murph is his age. I was all for Fev for most of this year but yesterday left me feeling decidedly uncomfortable about him being our captain. If the club went down the Murphy path I think I might just have to support it. Not sure that he'd accept it though (which probably just suggests that he's worthy of it). |

Yeah Gee Dubya........... my reasoning is basically that.........all this time no one has jumped out and gone...."PICK ME PICK ME".......! for me.......if Lance was ever going to be Captain...it would have been when Bradley was made Captain......but a little late now....! the thing i see with the Murph is.........professionalism........ commitment and lots of other little things....and as you say....the only problem is age.......! well.........one thing i can gaurantee you IS......he's only going to get older........! kindest regards tommi |

Heard TD interviewed on SEN the other day. Obviously they were asking him about kids and they asked him something along the lines of: Who is the player at the Blues that gets all of the others going etc They were specifically talking about the kids at the time and TD's answer was that there probably wasnt a kid at the moment, but that in time it could be AB. He also gave a wrap to Fish!! He said that AB still had a lot to learn but that he was a leader and very professional etc. Personally id want to see AB playing games like he did against the filth last year every week first, but food for thought. |

I'd be happy to go Simpson. Tries harder than anyone. Vice would be out of Scotland, Thornton (if he quits cracking it at teammates), Lance and Fev for mine. i honestly think that Simpson would be a great option for the club. |

yep you could look at it like that ...or as he did at the start of the year when we were getting thumped, and nobody was talking of him as a leader ... his acts nonetheless on the field showed leadership! his chasing against melbourne, his lone hand in the first half against freo, his attack on the ball and eventually kirk against sydney... so yesterday you could say it was a dummy spit...or you could see it for the act of passion it was. He wanted to inspire by kicking a goal, but when he didn't and was pushed - he flew the flag!! for himself and his team. He showed passion and pride in his performance and that of the jumper. His acts for the remainder of the game is proof of this. Fev is 'THE' leader. Call whoever you like captain, but this is the man that is doing it on (and off from all reports) the field and others are prepared to follow him... |
