Why do our youngsters seem to take longer to develop? Why or how can teams introduce a youngster and then within weeks they win the NAB rising star? How many NAB rising stars have we had this year? I know Murphy won it however have we had anyone else win it this year? In fact each week take a good look at the oppositions youngsters. The Hawks youngsters showed enough yesterday to suggest they are on the right track. Not to mention the Hawks had several players out as we were not far off having our best team. Even sides that are just average in Port and Brisbane have just as many good youngsters as us. Port and the Lions haven't bottomed out like us. We have some low draft picks and my concern is why aren't they developing as quick as some other youngsters from other teams. Admittingly our youngsters do not have a core of senior players for support. eg. The Essendon* youngsters have Hird, Fletcher, McPhee, The Johnstons, McVeigh etc Our youngsters are pretty much on their own. Also, do our youngsters have access to development staff a mentor or someone that can get them up each week. No doubt SOS or Ratten would be great for some of our youngsters development. The only coach I see that is approachable and provides guidance is TD. At training TD often revs the players up, hardly hear from the other coaches. Peeved off each week seeing other teams youngsters winning the NAB rising star despite us playing so many youngsters at the moment. Either we are not drafting correctly or we do not know how to teach the youngster to take the next step like other clubs seem to do. |

Here's a list of our Rising Star Nominees… http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index. ... r+Nominees I think our kids are developing a little bit better than may seem immediately apparent. I do admit I'd probably like a few of them to be a bit further progressed than they are now, but kids take time. Instant footballers like Judd, Deledio and Murphy are few and far between. There one, maybe three tops, each draft. |

Most of our Youngsters ( Bentick, Thornton, Carrazzo etc) began their careers as rookies. The others like Fisher pick 72??? Not bad but cant kick! and Simmo ( improving) were passed up by many prior to us picking them. That means no one wanted them in the draft. Not even US!!! They just aint that good! |

You idiot Hird was picked up when no one understood how to use the draft. There were many many bargains in the first few years. Not many now as the clubs all do the right amount of homework! |

Because they have to play in a side with a losing mentality (which certain people think is good). Same reason why average players seem much better at other clubs, as well as good old Stevens. Put them all in a side that wins regularly and they'd all be better players. |

Blues4Ever, when you have a look at some of the favourites for this year's NRS you can see that they have all been in the system for more than just one season. This includes guys like Pearce, Raines, and Shaw. While I personally would have liked more NRS nominations this year - the reality is that next year could deliver us a long list of nominees. This is even forgetting Gibbs/Hansen and whoever else we pick up. Guys like Edwards, Raso, Bower, Kennedy (I think) and Hartlett will all be eligible. Next season will be the first year that we have a real depth of young players - this year we were halfway there, and the year before was all retreads as a result of draft penalties and poor drafting. So have a little patience - because it all might just turn around in terms of the NRS |
