Maybe Im being harsh but i really cant see why a lot of blues supporters rate Bentick so highly. In my opinion he is a servicable player but not much more. He is certainly in our best 22 but realistically he would need to improve a great deal to make it into a team that was capable of playing finals.

I like the way he puts his body in but he doesnt come out with ball enough and his posessions rarely hurt the opposition. He reminds of Jimmy Plunkett - you will get the occassional great game but his average game is not so impressive.

I am NOT saying he should be delisted but I think many people (DP included) are stretching it a bit far when they talk abut Bentick as one of our exciting young group.

No, I don't think he's over rated, I think he's rated appropriately. He's just turned 21 in a side that has no depth in inside mids. He lays 4.5 tackles a game and is always in a Diesel like position at stoppages, in the dirt.

He captained the premiership TAC cup team and was rookie listed.

I like the boy 8)

Good kid.
If he can work on his kicking could be an excellent player.

Bentick being overrated would depend on who is rating him. I don't think he gets too much plaudits in the media, definitely no more than he deserves anyway.

He's only played 30 games.

Agree. In the end there will be little dispute about him having the ability to get the ball but what will take him to another level is improvement in his ball usage. He needs to become a Sam Mitchell.

And continually fed the ball out to Brock McLean in his TAC days.

Goes missing sometimes, but has had more top possession games than not this season. But he is only young still, like most of our team he will get better as we as a team do.

Won't ever be a top liner but may well become a solid B-Grader like Sam Mitchell.

Still young with a fair bit of improvement left in him.

In years to come, the combo of Bentick/Blackwell will warm Blues supporters hearts.

We need to give him and Stevens and whoever else plays midfield support. We cannot just play a 4 man midfield. Get some mids in NOW!

Correct.

With Murphy zipping past for the recieve, we will have a midfield that is nigh on unstoppable.

in age vs ability he is ahead of Stevens, prefer him out there then Houlihan also. Similar to Ratten at around same age?

Bentick is a good Blue Collar worker and does some of the 1% ers like shepherds for his teammates that are almost non existant in some of our other senior listed players.....you need your B Graders...Robert Shirley, Matthew Bode are B grade Blue Collar workers for the Crows and do a lot of the monkey work for players like Mcleod and Goodwin.

Sam Mitchell is about the best extractor in the comp and you would be paying more than B grade prices for his services....1st rnd draft pick plus some....

Love these questions... doesn't the answer depend on how you rate him?

I would like him to run and create a bit more, but I think he is showing signs. He reminds me a bit of Ratten.

He is in our best 22, but would never be in the best 22 of a premiership winning team.

Bentick like more than half of our list needs to work on his disposal by foot and his decision making. I don't ever remember Ratten having any such issues when he started. The only real issue he had was trying to break into a midfield that already had Bradley, Williams, Gleeson etc in it.

But that's not his role.

His role, as an in and under player, is to get under the packs and get the ball out to players like Murph, Houlihan, Scotland etc

Is he young in comparison with the rest of the squad?

Yes.

Is he improving as he matures?

Yes?

Has he already shown ability?

Yes.

Ergo, he's not over-rated.

When Ratten was the same age, plenty questioned his worth, but he ended up OK.

Give the kid a break. It's extremely rare for any player to be a star so young.
