Now, we PATENTLY lack players who are angry who like to scrap and have a physical presence. Our only exponent of the "Campbell Brown" approach is Fevola... and SO often its him shoving 5 opponents with no support. I'm wondering if we can find some attitude among the current list. My thoughts turn to Wiggo. Solid body now, courage to burn, good team man. Now, Wiggo doesn't go around imposing himself on games, but its understandable given he's trying to find his feet and gain regularity in the side. I like Wiggo.... I wait for the day when he feels like he finally belongs in AFL... because THEN we'll see the best of Wiggo. So, my question is this: does anyone here think that with a bit of confidence and form, and a sense of entitlement on an AFL career, could Wiggo blossom into a, dare I say it, Aaron Hamill style force in our forward line? Or is it someone else? DOES WIGGO HAVE THE MONGREL DEEP DOWN? |

Wiggo definately does - he's just not dirty like that dog Picket. As his confidence grows so will the agression, at the moment he'd be more worried about cementing his place in the side to risk giving away too many frees for the odd act of agression. |

If there is anything opposition coaches have learnt about SW this year it's that you can only give him so much latitude. He can play just about anywhere and he can pick up posessions at will and he can hurt you. He does lack that little bit of class - but for those of you saying no - pop along to pre-season training early next year. Wiggo has mongrel, G&D and he'll be going around or a couple of years yet. BTW - Banno has it too. |

Wiggo is recklessly brave but hasn't got a lot of mongrel, and even when he handed out a heavy shepherd last week, it was him that ended up with a fractured eyesocket. There's not much mongrel at the club, but we need toughness first. I don't think the push and shove intimidates too many |

I like to think of Wiggo as a mustard datsun 120Y with an automatic shift. If you rev him at about 5000clicks you might get to 100km if you are going down hill. When I think of a mongrel (e.g. Pickett) I think of a 85 Falcon stationwagon which has more rust than metal. It weighs in at 1.5 tonne and cant stop when its sees the pedestrian crossing the road. Now if you recall the Port Vs Blues game at the G circa 2005 you have my point in case except exchange the pedestrian for a mustard 120Y. |

He mentions in one of the glossy mags this week in the article about him and Loudy, how confident he has become since getting together with her. They are gettng married at year's end, so that might help him even more in the confidence stakes. Not sure if Wiggo needs to be a mongrel, but I think Bryan has the mongrel potential in him. |

re: Banno....someone mentioned him having mongrel.....like Wiggo he is very brave and plays in front but IMHO doesnt have the mongrel feature either..Both Wiggo and Banno play the game in a brave but gentlemanlike fashion....and are a credit to the club... Last player we had with real mongrel was Darren Hulme however he had limitations as a player which caught up with him.... We did have a few posters wanting Byron Pickett at the Blues.....after this seasons form with Melbourne they probably had a fair case......he has been very good and would provide some good cover for some of our young players.... I know this probably belongs in the recruitment section but a player named Chris Dawes in the u18Champs impressed me as having some mongrel...took some nice marks and didnt mind having a go back at any players wanting some push and shove.....maybe Cazz, Mojo etc who have seen more of him would like to comment... |
