He's admitted his responsibility before. The thing is, when you're on the verge of a flag, the natural thing is to "top up" the list in the short term to try to get you over the line. Not to mention our terrible drafting in 2000, probably the final nail in the coffin. We did take longer than we should've embracing the draft. In hindsight, we should 've looked at it more after we missed the finals in 1997.

So there is more than one way of looking at it. If it workds, you're a genius, if it doesn't you're a flower wit.

The saddest thing about the clubs current predicament is that so many high profile Carlton people with the power to change things have sat back and pointed fingers rather than actually do something about it.

Look.. i keep saying.. if we do everything right .. we can come out of this a powerhouse very quickly.

There might be some changes that will begin the ball rolling as of next week.

Including staff changes.. and hopefully they do follow through the pp thing.

Just as importantly we need to grow a business.

Although being a great admirer of David Parkin I think its time he either puts up or shuts up with regards to the Carlton Football Club. Like a number of previous greats he is happy to pot the club in the media at every possible oppurtunity rather than help out when the club needs it the most. What seperates David Parkin from the rest, is that he is that he carries a great deal of responsability for the position the club finds itself in now. It was his policy to retain all aging players as well as recruit unwanted mature age players from other clubs. It was this policy that pushed the club over the cap rather than the common misconception of buying players. As we all know this also left a gaping hole in the playing list which was magnified by the ridiculously harsh sanctions imposed by the AFL. David stated the club desperately needs leadership and hope, well with elections are coming up (hopefully sooner rather than later) throw your hat in the ring and offer to help clean up the mess you left behind.

Whilst he coached us for a long and somewhat very successful period in our clubs history - David Parkin is seen as a Hawthorn person by many of the football fraternity and I don't see this changing. He also does 'the circuit' and appears at just about every seminar you shake a stick at - and I think he enjoys this now rather than stepping back into a management role at a club. Also, IMHO - footy as we know it now has passed him by.

He supports Carlton every bit as much and his family are Carlton supporters too. Dont kid yourselves. But footy has gone by him... and a few others. Its evolved pretty quickly recently

No doubt that the game has passed him by, however there are ways in which he could help the club at present. Michael Voss grew up a Carlton supporter and is being pusued by the club, yet has been publicly warned off the club by its last premiership coach. Although the game has passed Parkin by he is still respected in football circles and could be of great help in recruiting quality people such as Voss to the club. He could also help mend the factions that are currently cripling the club. Instead he uses his profile to paint a picture of doom & gloom and despite by his own admission being at least partly responsable offers no support. The saddest thing about the clubs current predicament is that so many high profile Carlton people with the power to change things have sat back and pointed fingers rather than actually do something about it.

Seriously, Parkin has been involved in so many reviews and restructures of footy clubs that it doesn't matter. I don't really care what he thinks because what he thinks has probably already been taken on board by every club in the league. Fresh ideas thanks. Next.

Is this right? I get the impression its either some people dont want to do things whilst we're being run in a certain way by certain people, or some people purely dont have time to act as director. To me the latter group could still assist with ideas and brand spruiking and for all we know they do.
