If so, have you checked with the club whether according to its records you are enrolled to vote at the next board meeting OR any extraordinary general meeting?

If you have friends or relatives who were members during 2006 but don’t access Talking Carlton, encourage them to check whether they are enrolled to vote.

The impending election, either at the annual general meeting or any EGM will be crucial for the future of the Blues.

There are plenty of members who are not enrolled to vote – make sure your membership counts in deciding our future.

===========

This afternoon I was speaking to people in the membership department – they are telling people that if you haven’t renewed your membership for 2007 by the time that the AGM/EGM occurs that you are not entitled to vote!!!!! I queried this and was informed that "this is what we have been told"

I don’t believe that this is the case, however, this in itself may prevent some 2006 members from bothering to enroll if they believe that they have to be financial 2007 members so far out from next season in order to vote at the upcoming election. Does anyone know the definitive answer to this?

Regards

Ockham

Ockham - it depends entirely on where they get to for the timing of the AGM or EGM. If its held this calendar year we are all members - if you voted in march 2006 you're entitled. Bringing the AGM forward (or signatures for the EGM) is successful to December, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd have hoped by now that the Club could contract with its auditors to ensure this happens in December. March 2007 is inappropriate.

How does one enrol to vote? is this a seperate process to buying a membership? Does a silver memebership automatically enrol you?

No, its a separate process. That sounds odd from an external point of view, but I guess we enrol to vote in political elections outside of being eligible to vote...

Let me guess. There's a form and it's not available on the website.

Cheers Molsey,

Thanks for the info.

I still think that it is vital that all members ring the club to ensure that they are enrolled.

Nightcrawler,

Buying a membership does not in itself automatically enrol you to vote.

It used to be a separate annual enrolment.

A couple of year's ago the club changed this and made it a once off enrolement, however, the database that this was recorded on was ineffective and lots of members dropped off the "enrolled" list.

Enrollment requires you to call the club (03)9387 1400, speak to membership and ask them to check your status. If not enrolled they'll mail you a form to complete and return - very easy.

You're experienced at this Club, hey?

From memory, someone on here - perhaps camelboy - posted a thread with a pdf file or a link alerting us to this problem in February of this year. Only 2500 people were entitled to vote at the meeting.

Regardless of your views on teh Board we must maximise the vote this time to ensure that all Directors and potential Directors have the full scrutiny and subsequent support of the membership base.

Part of the reason, I assume, is also that when enrolling for voting rights you also state you will be personally liable for up to $50 (IIRC) if the club is ever wound up.

A bit arse about, and something Collo said he would change once he got in when selling CarltonOnce back in the day.

Great work CB,

Amazing that we can have online access to it but the club's website doesn't!

Yeah, hosting a form is pretty easy but I'd be crap at running a footy club. Oh wait…

Where do we send the completed form to? Is it the address on the bottom of the form, or is there a seperate Membership Department address?

Cheers

Hi Ox,

I believe that you send it to the club address as listed on the form.

Probably best to follow up with a phone call too. The Membership Dept are usually pretty good on the phone.

And IIRC you need to be a Silver Member or higher to be eligible for voting rights. Unless that has been changed too???

I was one who dropped off this list (or was never put on it). I faxed my voting form to the Club for the 2005 season in Dec 04. However was away for the March 2005 meeting.

When I turned up at the CLub in March 2006 to register my vote, I was not on the database as a registered voting Member, and they said it was too late to register for that election. I signed a new voting registration form then and there.
