Brett Backwell has won the 2006 Magarey Medal.

Stephen Kenna was runner up.

Well done to a couple of ex-carlton boys.

Especially well done to Brett, as he has been close a few times, and had his finger amputated to improve his game.

He was all pretty casual about it, but then that's his style.

Mods, feel free to move this if you feel it doesn't belong here.

Reckon he could have gone alright for us if we had persisted with him.

Wasn't a bad player.

Nice work, Brett, and well done to Kenna too.

I liked Backwell, I'm glad to see him kick on.

Great to see Backwell finally pull his finger out!

Now move this to the SANFL board.

I agree. I saw him do a blind turn on Libba once in 99 and I thought this boy can play. I don't knwo what happened there.

Also has won a JJ Liston with us (not Northern Bullants)

It was Wayne Brittain ... the man who took us from the finals to the wooden spoon in one season.

On interview Brett reckoned that he hasn't given up on AFL yet, referring to Montgomery and others. But he isn't going to stress over it.

I think he was pretty close to a return with us when we went with Steve Kenna. Nichevo.

if the fact he was on an AFL list ages ago excludes him from being able to be rookie listed then the rule needs to be looked at ...

Conratulations to the little champ. Loved him as a Carlton player when he was given a chance.

Malcolm Blight won a Magarey Medal before he went on to play 100 AFL games....there's still hope for Blackers at Carlton...Brittain's no longer here, and Pagan loved retreads.

He should have made it. He should have been given more opportunity.

Dumb Brittain move.

Gibbs polled 4 votes.

1 vote against the Bloods, and 3 votes against the Swampies when he kicked 6.

Backwell was unlucky to get the chop however the open style of play and non checking/no accountable style that is the SANFL suits him.....Jeremy Clayton to me is a better player and unlucky not to win it again..
