I posted this elsewhere in another thread but i though i might make it a new Thread on it's own, incase it got lost in the other one.

I recently posted a letter to Denis outlining a few concerns i had.

I was shocked to all hell last night when i recieved a phone call from Mr. Denis Pagan himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now.........................................................

What was said is between him and me and i gave him my word that it will stay that way, Denis was very nice and did go into quite a bit of detail that he really didn't need to (quite a bit actually!), but did so because he admired how passionate my letter was.

Regardless of my thoughts or feelings towards Denis, i would like to PUBLICLY say that the phone call was very much appreciated and i thank him for that.

I think i owe him the honour of at least coming on here and thanking him publicly for that. A Two-Time premiership coach doesn't really need to be phoning supporters explaining themselves.................but he did, and i thank him for that!

Anyway. Just thought i would state that publicly on here!

Without specifics Ryan, what was the general gist of your queries to the coach? game tactics? Selection? Positions? game time? etc

Ryan, do you work at Centrelink?

I'm hoping that's why Denis rang your number.

Due to our shared life long affinity for Krispy Kreme donuts, I received a phone call from Elvis last night. In addition to discussing at length his opinion on the current series of Australian Idol, he also told me the meaning of life, the universe and everything.

Unfortunately I can't share any of that with you guys, but I just wanted to publicly thank Elvis.

But trust me, it's pretty profound.

Props to Ryan and DP.

Following on from the call that Brettie on CSC got from Smorgon, props to the club for increasing their effort, or at least, finally bloody making an effort to communicate with the members.

Long may it continue.

Yeah, all of the above really. But also quite a bit to do with the managment side of things aswell (letter was also addressed to Mr. Smorgan).

Flooding. Players unhappy. Constant negative press. Failure to improve our image 'off-field'. Etc, etc, etc.

They were just my opinions and thoughts really.

Oh don't get be wrong, I believe you Ryan. Ringing supporters for a bit of a chin wag is just the sort of absurdity I would expect our coach to be engaging in during the middle of trade week.

My point is there is no point in posting it if you can't talk about what he said in detail. Denis doesn't need public thanks (and one presumes that you were polite enough to thank him on the phone in person) and it will only leave people feeling frustrated.

It's a bit like dating a girl who says she used to give great head but doesn't do it anymore. How is saying that helpful to anyone?

I find that quite extraordinary, but I believe you. Given I've read nearly all your posts this year, I know you're not related or his close, closet ally.

Well done DP!!

Given that you gave him your word, I think it's honourable of you to keep it that way.

But there are ways around that roadblock, without breaking your word. Let me start it this way:

Ryan, do you think:

...that all the media stuff about DP and the borad votes are true?
...that the Russell review leaks were true?
...that Carlton have the right players to bring Carlton success?
...that DP has the support of the players?
...that we have the money required to improve development programs of players?
...that the AFL pull our strings?
...that we are going after the 2002 PP?
...that we have a good chance of winning the 2002 PP?
...that there will be a good player signed up in the PSD?
...that Russell is a required player?
...that Thornton will be with Carlton in 2007?
...that Stevens will be better for Carlton in 2007?
...that Stevens will be with us in 2007?
...that we will get hold of quality assistants?
...that we will draft2 of the top 5 draftees in 2006?
...that we will not be wooden spooners in 2007?
...that Batson, Smith, Flint and Jackson will be with us next year?
...that Aisake, Flint or Jackson will be elevated?
...that DP loves Carlton as much as he says he does?
...that DP will be with us beyond 2007?

......

I look forward to YOUR opinion Ryan.

In the post on CSC, EB spoke, without going into specifics, about how he had been very anti Smorgo but how the 1 on 1 call and the explanation given had allayed much of his original concern.

Without giving away Pago's secrets, have you changed your position on the great man and his master plan as a result of the call?

Good on your Ryan!

Well done for posting this. Having read your posts I know that you've been highly critical of DP - so credit where credit is due, because you certainly didn't have to say anything about the call.

I agree with Camelboy that at least the club seems to be trying to connect with supporters at the moment. Shame that it took having their butts on the line to get around to it though.

Ryan

Did he leave you confident in our future success as Carlton Football club?

Do you think that he's got the best of a bad group?

Do you think the players are unhappy?

Do you think that Dennis lacks the resources to make the group a closer unit? eg Team preseason over to the USA being helpful, preferable or necessary. High altitude training? (not the Angwin/Norman type).

Look at all the posts Ryan. Like flies to shit.

We are anxious to hear YOUR opinions, not DP's...it's safe to do so....go on...please.....look you've started something...you knew you would....someone as smart as you would have expected such a response, and as such, you would have thought about the best way to inform us YOUR opinion, without breaking the promise.

So what happened to all the talk that we would submit a petition similar to Geelong members to get the answers we want in an organised meeting?

IMO Pagan is coping a heap of unfair criticism, but we will all continue to speculate while the questions remain unanswered.

Obvioulsy the party line will be toed in answers, but those answers would then give everyone the baseline to either criticise or congratulate Pagan and his team moving into 2007.

You presume wrong! Please dont make assumptions like that. Denis is a well respected man of AFL and regardless what i think of him, i was still polite enough to thank him for taking the time to phone me.

May not like him...........................but he deserves respect nonetheless (and that was my feeling BEFORE he phoned me.)

Bondi.................
Here are the ones i can (kinda) answer.

...that all the media stuff about DP and the borad votes are true? -i believe so.

...that Carlton have the right players to bring Carlton success? Yes. Both Denis and i believe that we have a list oozing with potential. Pagan did give credit to Wiggens in perticular saying he has great hopes for him.

...that Russell is a required player? - yes.

...that we will not be wooden spooners in 2007? Denis says that he would expect and believes we can contest for finals in 08'.

...that Aisake, Flint or Jackson will be elevated? he did mention Jackson.

...that DP loves Carlton as much as he says he does? - I gotta say, Denis did say that he confronts a sledgehammer attack everyday he comes into his office, so for him to be putting up with this crap does show he does feel strongly for the club.

...that DP will be with us beyond 2007? - all i can say is that he does indeed WANT to be.

2nd effort.....

No. I have a very high regard for him as a person. But the conversation did not sway my opinion that i think he is the wrong coach for where Carlton is and needs to go.

Read it again Sam, that's what I said. If you've thanked him in person, why do again publicly when you know it will encourage people to ask you a whole buch of questions that you, apparently, don't want to answer.

I did so because i think that we all (myself included) are quick to criticise people like Denis without ever really getting thier side of the story except through media reports (which are quite often bullshit anyway). A personal response is just not always posible.

There have been a few posts on here latley and a general feeling that the club is perhaps not listening to its supporters and needs (must) begin to find the time to reconnect with them and let them know just how important and appreciated their thoughts and opinions are.

What Denis did needed to be told of..............its a sign that perhaps the club is starting to reconnect with its supporters.

Hence..............................the reason i posted it and felt the need to thank him publicly!

Thanks Ryan

2008...finals...with DP at the helm...mmmmmmmmmmm????

2008...finals...with new coach at the helm.....possible if we get a couple of ruckmen...and by 2008, I don't mean developing ruckmen, I mean ruckmen that can play finals footy, because to get into the finals we'll need a ruckman with the ability to carry the ruck...very difficult task, that's why we need 2 ruckmen.

I would have thought that what I saw of Wiggins was the best of Wiggins. I'm not a fan, but he really stood up last year...where are the required skills to play senior footy going to come from in 2007?

Cheers Ryan.
