Is it my imagine or is the PR machine working overtime in the last week or so? Not a criticism at all, it's long overdue. It's really good to see the club getting on the front foot and selling some good news stories in a timely manner - Thornton and Russell re-signing, Ratten coming on board, etc. I was also pleased to see that 2007 Memberships can now be paid monthly by Direct Debit, this would surely sway a few with cashflow problems. A guy at work follows Essendon*, said they've offered it for years. Anyway, credit where it's due. |

Absolutely. Credit where it's due. This scenario always reminds me of opposition politics. Demanding something, then when it's delievered, saying 'well it took too long'. While it may be true, at least suggestions are being listened to and adopted. |

One of the things I've wanted the club to do for a while... they're actually trying to put a positive image out there now and reach out to the supporters instead of the general media just focusing on the negatives(no shortage of stories there)... and it's making me feel a hell of a lot better about the club recently! Dare I say it, another turning point?

The month after coming last in a competition like the AFL should give you a positive feeling as you get the #1 pick, you can hopefully entice someone with the PSD#1 choice, and the feeling of delistings suggesting a moving on creates hope that finally we're moving on. Each year for the past 5 there's been players on the list that aren't cut at this time that you may think...oooh, he's lucky....If we cut a few more I dont think I'll think that at all. The point is that we should be having good news at this point in the cycle but it was clouded by some politics and the threats to leave the Club by Thornton and Russell. Thankfully we were able to work our way through, providing that great angle that all young good players were retained. I think CCommunications do a good job. I think we remain under-resourced and need some extra cash once the business turns around. But the extra Coaches - perhaps for political reasons, perhaps for Membership reasons but still definitely for club betterment and footy department reasons - is great news and hopefully a sign of things to come. |

A pertty naive article from 'footygoss'... funny how some pundits think that a couple of assistant coaching appointments will/should stave off a challenge to those board members seeking re-election... as if suddenly all the building blocks are in place now that we've got ratts and braddles... That's good, and I'd much rather have ratts than elshaugh. But our problems (and hence our opportunities) begin at the TOP: president board senior coach we CAN do better than what we've got. And we WILL do better. |

As you have fondly pointed out to me on occasion JohnM much of the press is naive...or perhaps simple is the better word. From a distance, we're cutting the list beyond those who can get a game in 2006 (McG played 19 games!!! Jackson or Edwards or Raso now have a permanent spot), we've said enough is enough with the assistant Coaches (50% turnover with more to come), we've secured funding for the ground, and we have the best draft picks. The story is 'up' even if we suspect the story could have been far better. We don't see that some times because of our proximity to the Club through TC. |
