After all the talk about how precious the kids are going to be in the future... they axe these guys ![]() Batson was really coming on in the VFL... can take a mark and kick straight and Smith really had no opportunity. And to top it off we now have to PAY for our membership caps. I'm really going to have to consider membership this season (and I've been a member since 1988). - Twinone |

By all reports Batson was always going to be gone, playing Bullants reserves and not doing enough to be promoted to the Bullants seniors. Smith is probably unluckier, but is supposed to be in a similar mold to some of the other young guys on the list. Rookie list players by definition are going to be a riskier proposition because they've been overlooked in the ND as poorer prospects than higher rated players. While some will prove the doubters wrong, a lot of others won't. Based on the observations of those on this forum that have seen the players multiple times in person, i'm comfortbable with the clubs decision. I signed up for my 2007 membership on Friday. |

Batson was struggling in the VFL Reserves; and Jesse hardly set the world on fire at any stage; certainly not enough to unseat Murph or Bentick or Simpson or Carrots et al. |

Warby, Batson's lack of opportunity will be a mystery to me until someone can tell me why in 2 years particularly the second year he was given @#$%&! all chance to play Bullants ones. I saw him play against Sandy and he looked mobile and good footy awareness.Anyway its back to Nhill. Smith wasnt given the opportunities either.A bit stiff But might have lack a bit of pace.No room for him on the list with Bentick and Blackwell. Teague and Deluca are contracted till 2007.Thats why they havent been delisted. Of the two Teague is gone for all money. The game has passed him by.Sad to say because he is so gutsy but is too short, slow and his disposal and decision making is below standard particularly since the microscope was put on him. Deluca is the interesting one.At times he is the most useless footballer god ever invented. His prelim game for the Ants was so bad even the Carlton players on the other side of the fence watching were laughing at how shit he was. Yet he can all of a sudden do something amazing and you say shit. He is quick and can be good. If I was Pagan I would be saying to "two grabs" you will only survive 2008 and beyond if you deliver in the ruck.If we go for Gibbs then the opportunity presents itself. |

and all clubs must delist 2 (or is it 3) rookies each year. |

No club would promote a rookie based on two years playing poorly in the VFL reserves. No club would promote a rookie who's played only two poor games in the seniors over two years. Why should we be any different? Jessie may get picked up on the rookie list for a second stint but I think we've seen the last of Batson. |

All clubs must delist 3 from the primary list each year. ie. Each club must have 3 selections in the national draft. Second-year rookies have to either be delisted or elevated at the end of the season.* * - Unless they're an international rookie. |

I think Jimmae you'll find that clubs must alter their rookie lists also by 2 (or 3) no matter what their status - ie they could have 6 first year rookies on their list. |

These guys never really had a AFL Careear and what stopping Carlton re recruiting Daniel Batson as a rookie again,if they are short with ruckmen,i think he still young enough. I predicted Jesse Smith gone especially as we have Simpson,Bentick, Murphy,Betts,Walker,Russell,Wiggins,Houilhan,Stevens,Scotland, Blackwell,Carrazzo and now Jackson and possibly Gibbs and another one or 2 that we might get in the draft playing in the middle. |

The AFL Rules stipulate a Club may retain a maximum of three players on its Rookie List for a second season provided it nominates such players at the time of the compulsory list lodgment. So dannyboy appears to be correct. |

Batson was so far down the list as a ruckman he was mainly played at FF in the Ants ressies. Aisake went past him like a shot and he is still learning the game. Jesse had his chances with the Ants but fell well behind Blackwell. Could win the ball but wouldn't mind his man and we have enough unaccountable midfielders already. |

good luck for them in the future, but hey they just didnt cut it. 100% correct - not every young player will make it - what we need to do is quickly identify and turn over the ones that wont. Not give them opportunity after opportunity after opportunity only to end up wasting 5 years (Sporn & Livingston). Good work match committee. |
