been told that Michael Malouf will be given his marching orders this week.

a mutual agreement will be given as the reason for his departure.

Been talked about for a few weeks now. Good move i think, I doubt a challenge will go ahead via an EGM now, more likely candidates put up to contest the seats up for grabs inc Smorgon.

This is a far cry from the day when Jack Hamilton used to say the VFL/AFL was the 12 clubs.

Welcome to the worlds best practice in Sports Administration and the American Franchise System.

The AFL is the Master Franchisor.


Why would you want to be a club member anymore - you dont have any legitimate say in how your "club" is run.

The master franchisor tells you what to do and when to do it - shit, you dont even own your "club" logo anymore.

You want to join a football club these days - there are plenty of struggling suburban clubs who would gladly take your money and you could even get a spot on the committee too.

His main brief has been achieved, acquiring funds from MCC for the PP redevlopment. One of the main reasons for his appointment was to set in motion the whole PP proposal with his previous council experience and inside knowledge. Time for a change

Based on the hypothetical that Malouf will be replaced, IF the AFL has ANY involvement in the appointment of a replacement CEO of CFC then in my eyes the club is DEAD.

I'll be interested to see who applies for Kangas CEO position which they want filled within two weeks....Grant Thomas isnt one of 15 wishlisted applicants, however he still might get a look in....
Brian Waldron has done a fair job with the Storm and would seem like a suitable candidate for our CEO position.
I would enquire about Brian Cook from Geelong as well...

Ah the politics of it all.
Smorgon was happy to use Malouf recently to shore up his own position, now he's happy to set him adrift.
Malouf has made some errors but its difficult to drive the ship with your hands tied behind your back.

Wow! Wouldn't touch 2 of those with 40 foot poles! Waldron is the man here - but to drag him away from the Storm would be impossible.

My shortlist is:

Peter Abraam (CEO Vic.Major Events Company)

Lisa Ronson (Has been Visa's Director of Marketing / Telstra GM, Sponsorship...speaks superbly and about time we had a woman as an AFL Club CEO)

Gino Butera - (Cummins Automotive Asia-Pacific CEO, based in Melbourne...pretty sure he follows the Blues as well...has contacts, proven record at senior level)

....I would normally advocate that the CEO is the most important person at the club. I still believe that in the instance of Myles Baron-Hay (Swans CEO) and Brian Cook (Geelong), that that is the case.

I'd also like to see someone like Ric Charlesworth appointed as High Performance Manager to work with the CEO at Carlton...but at the end of the day - it comes down to money. The shortlisted candidates for the CEO Rugby World Cup 2011 should give us an indication of those people out there who are looking to make a move and a name for themselves as a CEO for a Sporting Organisation.

I'd like to think we could lure Harry Madden away from Parliament to run CFC.

(Maybe he needs to stay on for another 3 years to get more Parliamentary Pension/Super....)

He's a good thinker, self-effacing without being silly about it, and has the contacts within the industry, having been Sports minister since 99.

In Page 56 of yesterday's Sunday Herald-Sun, under Palmer's Punchline's, a group, led by former players, were deciding on whether they would have a half or full tilt at the Board. There were deciding this after the Spring Carnival.

Maybe they were trying to see if they can win enough money at the Spring Carnival to pay out Pagan before deciding on their options :-D .
