It's hard on the high seas - ask Synbad

exaclty pick 1 in the PSD has effectively netted us Thornton, Russell and Ackland - good job!

I think he means that now T-bird and Russell are staying we dont have to waist the pick on them.

We needed a ruckman, we picked up a ruckman (if you would call him that). Hopefully Ackland can come to us and do something along the lines of Jolly.

Ahh Synbad you are so right we actually could have got Dean Cox or Brendon Laide but decided we didnt want those two players didnt meet our standard so went for Ackland instead.

Why dont you actually suggest a player we could have got but maybe in all your negative dribble you dont realise how difficult CFC is in attracting any decent out of contract player...... Knock knock Synbad how many out of contract Players has the Blue managed to attract in the past 3 years .....................

I think most people would be really interested to know who you think we could have got in PSD let us know :roll:

We have 5 ruckmen now... thats a big chunk of our list sewn up in ruckmen... at a time when its all about speed and midfielders...

I find it kind of funny how we feel that we can do a lot better than Ackland Ackland isnt a delisted player but was a required player at the Saints who had offered him a 2 year deal so from my memory he is prob the first player we have picked up that we have actually taken from another club. hope we get better oppertunities in the future. Not much comes to mind in the other clubs delisitings that i would have wanted the club to take in the PSD. If the Club had a crack at Mcphee and failed then i dont feel so bad for at least getting Ackland if no other prospects where available. And i have heard that the Club did approach Mcphee but he knocked us back Straight facts that we should be aware of * The club isnt something that is attracting any stand out players. * we are having trouble even offering better contracts to players who may be unhappy at there current club. * The Club has won back to back spoons so hasnt shown that it has on paper climbed out of the mire. * The club has certainly created / or media have created a pretty poor image which does not have players knocking down the door to come to. * Board disputes / financial woes have added to our poor image * we even could not attact players in recent times like Jolly / Bolton (hack) Ted Richards (average player) ect prob a few others. If the club fixes up the image shows improvements financially. Gets stability in the board / coaching what ever changes come into place and it settles down. Begin to win games and become competative so genuinely improve and show we are making steps forward ,..... then we will have players wanting to come to the Blues. But lets get real the last 2-3 years hasnt really shown a club that players want to come to. So maybe at this stage Ackland was / is the best prospect.. time will tell.

agree Wolfe ! im actually quite happy with the pickup and the club is at least trying to be on the front foot - damned if they do , damned if they dont at the moment. There aint much in the PSD and this is somewhat of a coup as you say pulling a required player from another club Imagine if we had waited until the PSD and ended up having to take a cloke or a carltedge or the like at least we have been proactive and i dont think this is the clubs final solution or piece to the ruck puzzle. Our ruck stocks are better today than they were yesterday !!

I just find it funny people are making a big negative out of taking Ackland yet dont throw up any other options and ... again i will say it again we havnt got much of a record in recent years to say we going to get anything really good You can add Kosi / Power to the list of players the club has tried to get but failed But agreed soon we will have players wanting to come to the Blues ... will climb the ranks then we will have options to choose from. Ideally if we didnt have the first pick in the PSD we could have lost T-Bird and Russell and even a real possibility we could have been forced to use our PSD pick on T0Bird ... so maybe Ackland isnt so bad after all

I wouldnt have minded Sugar coming on a one year contract for 150k... But he wouldnt have come here for that... you know why he came??.. cos he is a 24 year old without the confidence in himself to be playing football in three years... Thats why he came... Ability wise??? has some attributes.. he is athletic... but gee he lacks alot to be a REAL footballer.. the kind of stuff you cant fix in a player.

They were not pinched with a three year contract from somewhere else.. Unless you want to prove me wrong??? They were developed within the club... Now ill give you a scenario... StKilda and Carlton strugging for ruckmen... how many have they actually targetted to draft??? And the PSD????? heres another one of my philosophies and i have been saying it for a long long long time... If you cant get anyone better than average.. dont get anyone at all. each year good kids come in late in the draft.. or on rookie lists..lets take one of those... I dont need our list clogged up with rubbish for the sake of it. Or do you enjoy having the McLarens Saddingtons Longmuirs Chambers types there.... doing Jack!????? I hope that gives you a better understanding wolfe on reality.

All we have done is to sign up someone for the next few seasons that has a big likelihood of being dropped to the bullants, when it comes time that we have to start playing the kids after a string of 2007 losses.

if you actually read some of my posts Synbad you may see that i have suggested ruck options we look at such as getting a Tippert or Renouf to develope as they wont be senior ready straight from the draft and if they are available at a later pick.. also i would look at Michael Griffiths from East Freemantle as a possibility at 209cm / 100kg but he is a complete unknown And also Aisake is another who maybe gets promoted and depending on his developement could be an option in future also. Also i have suggested if we take Ackland not on the list as yet we then remove either Deluca or Bryan or both to use there spots for the unknown prospects you are talking about. And yep Saddington / Teague / Davies i would also like to see removed to chase new options in the draft. The reality check is more a statement that we are not a club that has been able to attract any higly rated uncontracted player... and my comment on Ackland is that he is one of the first players we have managed to get who has been offered a contract by the saints but has decided to jump ship. Ie the Saints did require Ackland so he isnt a delisted player. but i am not going to get in a slanging match with you Synbad this is my opinion not saying its right or wrong. And perhaps you can suggest who you think are the ready made prospects that we can use in the ruck next year suggest who you would look at not saying we would get ie they maybe taken earlier in the draft but put some options of who you think are these rookie prospects or late kids in the draft who could ruck straight up in a senior side.

Wofle ready made options??? Howabout the endless aray of ready made options we have drafted here since Denis came to the club (including Barnaby) why not one of those ruckmen???? If none of those are any good why will another reject be???? Whats wrong with giving a couple of them some faith .. including Setanta who can run around every bit as well as Sugar... and has 2 cms on him until they develop???
