Love this bit .......

Quote:
Kennedy said the Blues' young players had spoken about what they need to do to get the club back on top.

"We've spoken about it as a group that the young ones have got to step up and start showing some stuff this year or the year after, not just the older ones," he said. "We're looking forward to the future."

It's been a BIG weekend for Uncle John ........ I'm a bit emotional this morning.

I hear what you're saying Uncle.....

Everything you read and hear from our teenagers sends a tingle up the spine.

I just hope the excitement is understood and nurtured by those in charge.

How good is our leadership going to be in the coming years. This is seriously exciting times. Both Gibbs and Murphy ooze class.

These kids mean business!!

After reading the draft questions thread, it is really evident how the club is targeting the type of players who show this initiative. WH seems to place much importance on strength of character and people who are willing to get the best out of themselves. It is great to read.

Now that the new generation is properly here and the new Carlton is a reality.

We had to get rid of the 2000 2001 draft group - who did not live up to its promise and then sit around and patiently endure the horror years waiting while we skipped two player generations.

This group of players should have taken the mantle of the a grade players that left in the early 2000's - but for various reasons, failed.

The other skipped generation of players was forced on us by the afl.

However, even if we picked up the Goddards and Wells's - would we be better than if we picked up the Murphy's and the Gibb's? Actually I think that time will eventually show that we were better for having endured the years we did and picked up the players that we now have.

But there are more changes to come - some kind of board challenge and the departure of Pagan as well. - I think that the new Carlton is going to be one which is in significant better shape financially than we are at present.

My belief all along has been that Pagan departs from the club in controversial circumstances. But even if this doesnt occur - he will not be reappointed once his contract expires.

It is also to be expected that some of our young players wont make it.

But we will have sufficient draft picks and young talent now to cover for this.

Now, the next big thing to wait for is the real excitement that occurs in the first year of the new young coach who is appointed after Denis leaves.

We wont be a power team of the kind that Carlton supporters have been used to in the past.

But because of long term changes occurring right now in the afl competition due mainly because of the draft system spreading the available football talent more evenly throughout all teams in the the competition - after years of things going against us, the tide will surely turn and circumstances will actually change in a way which favours us.

Yes, we will still need to be a good side, but we wont have to be as good or as dominant as the Carlton teams were in the past to win a 17th flag.

I am fully aware that most will not believe me at all when I say that football glory beckons.

But I trust my own instincts on this far far more than I am influenced by the facile opinions and views of others.

I have never, ever wavered in my firm belief that Carlton will indeed triumph and vanquish our football foes in a dramatic and glorious way..

As I have said before - fortune favours the brave. And after years of hard work and thankless toil, Carlton will need and truly will be given an extra, extra large helping of a very vital ingredient - luck....
