http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/real ... 48990.html Towards the end of this Caroline Wilson piece on the football TV rights... Quote: The AFL continues to insist it is more than happy with the current state of affairs despite the fact it seems to have more control over the Kangaroos and Carlton at present than it does over just who will televise Friday night football into Sydney and Brisbane. And on the footy rights themselves, she rightly takes a swing at DimWitRiou... Quote: But for the second media deal in succession, the developing markets, where the game must entrench itself, could be harmed largely because the AFL went for the dollar with not enough concern for the detail.

Have to agree with her about the footy rights. Initial deal from Ten/Seven had much more exposure into the developing areas. When nine offerred a stack more cash without the exposure (demispew accepted it in a press conference) all 10/7 had to do was match the moolas and scrap the coverage. Think footy on the developing areas will suffer because of it now... |

So when is this new board going to take control? For the time being Carlton will continue being the AFL's little b!tch! |

As she invariably is when it comes to uncovering the machinations of the bumbling AFL administration. |

![]() Most people here hate her. I think she's about the only footy writer who could honestly call themself a journalist or investigative reporter. |

She wrote weeks before black Friday (which was actually Saturday by the time the verdict was delivered, but who am I to be pedantic!) that we would be penalised our first 2 picks and more, and she was spot on. She was the first to 'confirm' we would take Gibbs, after the Adelaide visit. That woman is in the know. What she does do is often focus on 'negative' stories (which is a common approach by the media in general). Unfortunately, over the last 5 years, there has been a whole lot of negatives at Carlton, which she has written about. So it becomes easy to hate her, because she writes stuff we don't want to hear. But what she writes is generally spot on. |

caro would not have a clue about the regional rights/developing markets. her stories are always 40% correct if that. If 7/10 have to telecast all 8 matches, Sydney and Brisbane will get more FTA football in 2007 than Melbourne watched in 2006. |

Yes, but FTA football is worthless for developing the game in those markets if it's at 1am. |

Yes, but FTA football is worthless for developing the game in those markets if it's at 1am. ... and ten minute chunks of the game mysteriously disappear. |

sorry, let me make myself clear.... caro would not have a clue about the regional rights/developing markets. her stories are always 40% correct if that. If 7/10 have to telecast all 8 matches, Sydney and Brisbane will get more FTA football in prime-time and mid-afternoon in 2007 than Melbourne watched in 2006. |

We've heard it all before. Personally I'll believe it when I see it. IMO that won't be any time soon. |

Will 7 or 10 have the balls to show AFL against 9s NRL? The NRL will always outrate the AFL. |

I know I'm prepared for a veritable cavalcade of Hugh Grant romantic comedies on Seven, and that crap Friday Night Games shite on Ten. My prediction is that only night owls, stoners, vampires and insomniacs will get to see AFL, and then it'll be missing large chunks of action. I'd love to be wrong, but I betcha I won't be. |
