Interesting to read that he thinks the captaincy is out of Lappin and Lance. Surely, Stevo would be the first person everyone would mention. |

So the rumours that Lance isn't very popular with the players might be true? I wouldn't call Lappin a leader or considered him a contender for the captaincy after his form over the past two seasons. Quote: As for the captaincy, Waite said it would probably be a two-horse race between Lance Whitnall and Matthew Lappin.
"I think Lance and Matty have had the consistency over a few years," he said. "They might go down the road of a young captain but I'm pretty sure they'll stay at Lance or Lappin or someone like that." |

Big year for Waite next year. HAS to perform or he could find himself in the trade basket. Has loads of potential just needs to find that consistency. Once he gets a handle on that, and stops being lazy, then he should make a good footballer. Needs to make an impact or guys like Fisher and Kennedy will take his spot. |

Don't be surprised if the captaincy is shared between Nick Stevens and Lance Whitnall. |

One of the best bits of the article is the mention of him flourishing under the new fitness coach - really think the boys have taken to him and are enjoying having some new ideas and methods to freshen up pre-season training. |

Speaking with Waite at the Family Day you could see relief that he is injury free so far. How frustrating for the kid, and what a difference a fit firing Waite will make. I think Whitnall and Stevens wil be the split assesing things at the moment. Mind you it is subjective, I saw those two work hard and talk well at training on Friday, but don't know their relationships with the playing group... |

I've always expected big things from Waite but next year I think he really has to start delivering on a consistent basis or at the end of next year I'd put him up for trade. With a big (and hopefully injury-free) pre-season this time around he has no excuse next season, he has been in the system long enough now. Waite frustrates me because he always does the freakish things but struggles with the simple things (i.e. set-shots for goal, marking etc). He has also shown signs of a lack of discipline and clumsiness, which he hasn't really ever eradicated from his game. But he does have the ability to be a real match-winner for us as he's shown in the past and I still feel he could just about 'explode' and be a really good player in the competition with his size and talent. But we can't wait forever so in my opinion next year has to be the one where he asserts himself as a quality AFL player from week to week. |

Just finished watching the round 22 game against Sydney and he was woeful. Personally I don't think he can make it to he next level because despite his talent he doesn't appear to have the mental discipline. In my opinion he is the most overated player at Carlton at the moment. Goes missing to often, gives away too many easy free kicks and tends to stick behind his opponent thinking he can take a nice grab over him every time. Will now face stiff competition from Josh Kennedy for goal scoring opportunities. His kicking for goal against the Swans was pretty good but generally speaking he misses a lot of easy ones. You would think that he would be staying behind with a few of the other boys precticing his goal kicking after training. Hardly ever see him stay behind. This will be his year of reckoning. Having said that he looks much bigger in his upper body at training so he must have been working hard on the weights which is a great sign. |
