Last week I got a preview of what the new CFC website will look like when launched next year in February.

IMO it is a major improvement on the current site, better navigation, less space for Bigpond ads, less cluttered etc. Great all round, I did not have many suggestions for improvement. The other good news is that the club will have the ability to post news instantly. This should mean that the official site becomes a lot more useful as a place to stop to get the latest news on the club. Currently if a news item is entered the system only refreshes a few times a day, so it may take up to 3 hours from the time the club enter the news item to it actually appearing 'live' on the website.

One of the best new features though will be the ability for the club to post video clips on the site. Initially they will pop up in your default media player but later next year they will be able to be played 'inline' on the webpages themselves ala YouTube.

The club is planning to make full use of this facility and will aim to post a new video every day onto the site.

The club already has plans for some of the content it may provide but I though it would be good if we could get some ideas from the good people of TC. Hopefully there might be some creative ideas that are rated PG and the club might be able to use.

I will let the club know about the ideas in this thread.

Short interviews, like a 20 questions or something.

Carlton Goals of the week that we can vote on?

All that jazz..

Whats the deal with the video footage in 2007 Jars, will I have to be a bigpond subscriber to view it?

I'd be interested to see if Pies supporters have free access to their video content.

Especially skill sessions like:

- Kicking for Goals
- Hitting Targets with short passes
- Laying Tackles that stick

The video footage produced by the club itself will be available to everyone.

AFAIK it will be free.

I would not be surprised that down the track some or all clubs not only offer free video content but also charge for premium club produced video content.

Elliott always saw the potential of the webite as a revenue stream

Personally, I'd like to see part of the video footage for members only - would be a great incentive for long-distance members who can't get to regular games thus get bugger all personal value (apart from the 'doing my bit for the club' factor) from their memberships.

If the club isn't sure what I mean they should check out http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/fanzone/fan_sign_in.html. Tottenham Hotspur have Fanzone and Spurs Lodge, both of which can only be accessed by club members or internet subscribers. There's wallpaper and screensaver downloads, exclusive interviews, voting for fans player of the year, video footage etc etc. If Carlton could introduce this and have members access it and offer special "internet only" memberships it would be a huge boost for the club IMO, especially given the interest in Ireland re: Setanta and Aisake.

From an interstate members point of view, access to a special area of the site as part of the membership package would add immense value to the interstate/long-distance membership.

I've rambled on a bit now... sorry

I have a Liverpool E-Ticket which gets me access to all video from games including match day video/audio if available, fortage of previous season games, past greats in action, post match and pre match interviews, player interviews, everything you want.

$100 a year can be accessed from anywhere.

and the ideas just flow on from there - Setanta and Aisake could do a weekly video diary for the folks back home. Even if only 1000 people in Ireland take up internet memberships at, let's say, $25 a year there's an extra 25k in our kick. Plus I know a number of Blues supporters in Country Vic and interstate that don't take up memberships because of the "what do I get out of it" factor. I reckon there's a lot of potential members out there that we can get hold of if we can get this up and running.

Rambling again - sorry.

The only problem with this being of major benefit to a country supporter, is the lack of broadband coverage out there... and dial-up severely hindering viewing streaming video. Apart from that (or finding a way around it) 'tis a great idea to get those unable to attended matches 'involved'...

Fair call re: broadband. I've only been out of the bush for five years and I've forgotten already

One thing I forgot to mention was that I did see a login facility on the plans for the new website.

I asked about what features this might unlock and I was told that the club had not been told about this yet from Telstra.

Hopefully it will enable something similar to what you suggest.

I will be strongly suggesting that type of service to the club.

Thanks Jars.

I really appreciate the opportunity to provide this sort of feedback.

Has it got an online voting facility for boardmembers and coaches - Aust Idol style.

We could vote Smorgs out and vote Wags the dog in and get this show back on the road.

Or we could have lawyer of the month and we could nominate a suburban solicitor for a position on the board. Ie. Denis Denuto.

Or what second rate music managers. Is there anymore of them out there? Hell we could vote Dicko on.
