Will eventually come out in the media that Mark Harrison has been connected in the past to John Elliot in business(various finance dealings l believe). Their mutual love of the Carlton Football Club apparently created quite a beautiful setting. One or two people closely connected to Harrison have stated that this is fact. I would love to know what Harrison's relationship with Elliot currently is, what it was, and would also like to know his view on what Elliot and his cronies did to our once great club. Lest we forget! |

big deal. harrison coming out in the media with moulton and slamming the AFL was the best thing to happen to this club in quite a while. i was initially skeptical that harrison was simply part of smorgon establishing a power base to secure his position as president, but it seems that this is not true and harrison and moulton are independent from smorgon. 'business dealings' is also a very general term, and could apply to anything really from selling an ice cream to valuing a house. IMO Harrison and Moulton are what we need. And I'm sick of hearing all this bagging of Elliot by smorgon. at the end of the day, as president elliot got us 4 premierships.... |

And then put our club within walking distance of being shut down for good. |

Barack Obama wrote: at the end of the day, as president elliot got us 4 premierships.... What a strange comment - firstly, it was only two premierships as just stated(not 4), and secondly please never ever ever forget that this is the same man that not only oversaw blantant cheating of the salary cap which undoubtedly directly significantly contributed to the on and off-field mess that we have ourselves in today, but was far too cowardly to admit it and take responsibility for it at any time(even till today). I will never forget going to the Extraordinary Meeting at Moonee Valley where he stated that we did not cheat the salary cap, and that the AFL would find once the investigation was completed that we were totally innocent. Anyway, enough of digging up the awful past. All l am saying is that l just hope Harrison is not John Elliot's mole! |

Let's hope so, but I'm not convinced yet. The smartest thing GS could do is to recruit 2 guys and tell them to come out against the AFL. GM can't bag the AFL so the next best thing to win some points from members is to recruit two guys who do. |

Quite so. '81 & '82 were under the Rice presidency. Where Carlton had averaged a premiership every 6 years prior to Jack arriving on the scene, he managed to oversee two cups, three runners-ups, our first spoon and the castration of the club in his two decades. ![]() |

Lest we forget! Sorry ManU, but thats just a ridiculous comment. Firstly, If you dig deep enough, you'll find that Harrison has been connected in business to pretty much every big name in melbourne. Wether he has done business with Elliot in the past im not sure, but its possible, considering how close mark has been to the carlton football club over the years. But to suggest that Harrison is Elliots new whipping boy is just foolish. There is no relationship between harrison and Elliot. Harrison remains on the board as an independent and will continue to do his best to secure the future of the carlton football club. |

One of the problems with us, as a club, is that just about EVERY Carlton figure over the past 2 decades has some sort of relationship with John Elliott. So playing the "John Elliott" card is at best a two edged sword. Similarly, Smorgon may pretend otherwise, but he has been around in Elliott times as well. Whatever he may feel about Elliott now, it is not likely that he always felt that way. For example, Collo and Elliott were once very close. I would rather keep the "Elliott" issue out of this and keep focused on the big issues. Elliott is the past. We learn from it and go on. We have to consider the future and what is best for us. If Harrison or Moulton are it, so be it. If Tom Elliott is the answer, so be it. But painting anyone as a John Elliott automaton is just not constructive. |

I'm linked to Harrison. ( Sat in the Rose Hall with Him anywhere up to 1000 times) I might be linked to Zac Fried. I'm sure I'm linked by proxy to Smorgon. Fact is I'm romantically linked to everyone who loves the CFC and is currently embarassed by what we read in the papers on a regular basis. Caro yesterday stated that clubs like North thank their lucky stars that Carlton shoot themselves in the foot and headline sports pages all summer. Enough is enough. I'm not standing for the board but I'll be there to vote for the alternative and I don't even know who or what it is but it's got to be better than what currently is happening! |

I see no reason not to treat any candidates on their respective merits, rather than tarring them with the somewhat fanciful notion that (Jack) Elliot will somehow be pulling all the strings. While I suspect Smorgon has indeed brought these guys on board in an attempt to shore up his own position, which is definitely the wrong motivation, I do not discount the fact that these guys may indeed have come on board for the right reasons. While I agree that coopting people onto the Board in an unelected manner can be dangerous, I can also accept that if done for the right reasons it can be beneficial. I do not accept that anyone jumping on board at this time, when skills of the type at least two of them have are desperately needed, is automatically to be discounted as unworthy or having the wrong motivation. However, I hope that with all the people now running around in the foreground and background (up to 3 groups?), some common sense will indeed prevail and the members will not be faced with a confusing plethora of relatively unfamiliar or uncertain names from which to choose. |
