Does anyone know if we use ice vests when players come off the ground?

I just watched the game on video, and noticed that they spent a lot of time focusing on the Collingwood interchange bench (and none on the Carlton bench!). And the Collingwood players would automatically put on the ice vests when they came off the ground. I presume they were also using them during the breaks between the quarters.

Perhaps this explains in part why Carlton ran out of legs in the last quarter on Saturday. (It was particularly disappointing, since we were going down the 'scoring' end, where both teams found it much easier to kick both straighter and signficantly longer.)

I noticed whilst watching the game that at the qtr time huddle the pies players had them on but none of ours did. I also noticed this at 3 qtr time. This is strange because it was particularly hot, and surely any advantage gained is worth pursuing...I know we own some as they were used during the Wizzer Cup. Can't see the logic in not using them last week.

If they were not used on Saturday there is serious questions to be asked. Add that to the fact that a team was running around (virtually) in all black V a team virtually in all white (heat absorptionis massively different).

I'ld expect this was taken into account. Not doing so would border on negligence

Perhaps we don't actually own any, but just occasionally 'hire' them for special occasions?

32 on Friday predicted 32 on SAturday (and got to 34) would qualify as a special occasion. Haven't seen the replay, but I'ld be very concerned if it was the case that they didnn't have vests . (I assume the fans and spray were there at the bench too!)

Surely the medical staff wouldn't be so stupid as not to check the temperature on the day.

If the Pies had them and we didn't, there'd no doubt the Pies players would have benefitted greatly from using them.

Might explain our fade out and the Pies full of running!

Pies also went into the shade at 1/4 time breaks. We stood out in the sun!

I doubt if it's a problem with our medical staff. More likely (if we don't have them) that we can only afford to hire them for really important games (like perhaps finals or a pre-season grand final). Whereas the Pies are currently flush with money, and wouldn't have any such problems.

Hi Guys....I can assure you that they were used on Saturday against Collingwood, just that the guys chose not to put them on in the huddle, just to put them over their necks. As a former athlete who owns a vest, I can assure you that they work and Pete Mulkerans really should enforce it...it shouldn't be an option....

The club doesn't have many however which is a concern as they don't cost much and the AFL subsideses the clubs for their use.

What was worrying was that the coaching staff chose not to follow Collingwoods lead and have the boys in the shade. This comes about due to the fact not one of our assistants comes out while the guys are doing their warm ups. Simon Lloyd (collingwood assistant) warms up with the players and I believe he pointed it out to malthouse and mckenna.

Just a basic lack of forward thinking by Carlton on Saturday in more ways than one.

I did see some of our players with them on at the 3qtr time huddle. I think it might have been Sporny..but can't remember exactly.
