In yesterdays Q&A with GS the issue of the clubs inability to utilise some of the talent and expertise within the ranks of passionate supporters was discussed. Most volunteers around the cub are involved in “practical†|

I have put a very similar proposition to more than one person at the club (once again just two weeks ago). Basically employ a 'volunteer liason' who maintains the professional volunteer database for the club and matches up the skills/time available to what is needed at the club on a daily basis. The position would pay for itself many times over. No-one has done anything about AFAIK. |

If we do a lot of the organising ourselves, a dedicated position at the club would not be required. It would however require direct contacts within club management and a well designed process. |

It is a massive task and something i agree with you in saying Carlton can benefit from in a massive way. heck, i'd kill to do it |

With what I was thinking about it would be a full time job which involves constant contact with all areas of the club. Although your way could work if the database was made available to all employees of the club to look up the available volunteers themselves. Would need some training of the employees and selling the concept to them etc. Not trying to steal your thunder here mikkey, your idea is an excellent one, my attempts to sell my similar concept to the club have probably been rather poor to this stage. |

Understand your concerns, but I would like to have a crack. I am a self-employed consultant and some of the big corporations in town are amongst my clients. So I have some experience in developing concepts and processes as well as managing rather large projects - so let us see how this goes. What I would like to do is to collect the names and e-mails addresses of those interested over the next few days and then discuss the way forward with them. |

Has been put to the Club so many times before becuase it makes so much sense, but gets lost in translation. Some of that comes down to our lack of resourcing though - there's just no time for Communications to do anything about it. I fully support whatever you come up with. Given Smorgon is the one who said 'yes' perhaps a detailed paper to Smorgon as to how we all see it working, and asking for his buy-in (or directive to marketing / communications to use it?) would be a good way to progress? ps mikkey, count me in. My specialty, although relatively unutilised by the Club, is proofreading of articles, publications and announcements. pps mikkey, in terms of pushing the idea the Blueseum is a great 'door opener' as a volunteer contribution to the Club. |

Ok, O may have missed this...BUt a few years back (as part of the fightback campaign) there was a volunteer database established.... I remember going into the club and filling out a form..... Can't say I've ever seen anything come from it?? The importanty thing is keeping ion contact with these people, regardless of the skills. I can help with databases..but if the club asks for help with painting the bleaches...I'll probably show up...if you know what I mean. Mikkey, Jarusa, KK anyone with an ear at the club....please push this. I fewar the suasage sizzles/raffle tickets/assistants at open day volunteers are purely (and continually drawn) form the same group of people who are "around" the club anyway...this just causes burnout. My 2c anyway |
