Apparently TV stations have chosen the full year already, but will only release in 6 week blocks. Even if we're 5-0, we wont be on FTA often.

A sign of the times - Saints CEO expecting 19 or 20 FTA games for the Aints this year  I wonder how many Aaron will play?

From a selfish viewpoint, given I have Foxtel, I'm happy enough with this deal. But the thing that stands out the most is just how much of a free ride the non-Vic clubs get in relation to FTA broadcasting, especially the Swans.

JohnM, I think I've just about swung full circle brother!

Praise be, CB!

I think the day's coming where 'bigger' victorian clubs stop seeing each other as the mortal enemy, and collude to target the non-vic clubs.

The way it currently stands, with non-vic clubs winning the last six premierships (with the previous six grand finalists all being non-vic) plus the huge disparity (collingwood excepted) of the finances between vic and non-vic clubs... it seems that it would be in everyone's interests for some sort of mechanism to balance the ledger.

In my opinion, there are three key areas of disparity:

1. One/Two team towns, and their ability to monopolise sponsorship.

2. The amount of FTA coverage non-vic teams enjoy (which helps them with sponsors)

3. The onfield advantage of having 'genuine' home-ground advantage. What adelaide and p.a and wc and freo and brisbane and sydney have is similar to the Princes Park, Victoria Park, Windy Hill home-ground advantage of old. Yes, they have to travel more, but I firmly believe (and stats would probably back me up) that the benefits far outweigh the downside.

I already know the answer to these questions and it is purely rhetorical but...

Why does a a wealthy team like Collingwood get 6 out of 6 games on FTA and the Bombers 4 out of 6 on FTA.

Yes I know it is all about ratings but it still displays the continued inequity in the FTA scheduling.

Football socialism stopped once pathetically managed teams like St Kilda the Dogs and interstate money pits like Brisbane, Sydney and Freo could win a game/premiership or two

CARLTON has been punished for its repeated poor form, with only nine games on free-to-air.

Anyone who thinks the TV rights deal is a good deal for Carlton is very wrong. If you have a choice to sponsor two teams, one who gets 9 FTA games and the other who gets at least twice that many, who do you pick?

... and when Carlton start winning again the sponsorship money and Television exposure will come in again.

The only team that has bucked the trend consistently over the last 5 years has been Collingwood (thanks to Eddie and Ch9), but they still have managed some good onfield results in that time.

But overall nothing has really changed for decades.

In the old days of Ch7 Footy, they never showed every game and were very particular in the games they highlighted as the 'replay' each week. Carlton used to figure very prominantly, certainly moreso than lots of other teams, because we were successful.

This would have put us at a great advantage to other teams back then.

The main difference now is we are not winning, not the TV setup.

We were only on FTA 10 times last year and we have finished last 2 years in a row, so nine times is not too bad I reckon.
