sorry if this has been posted elsewhere (please delete it if it has) but in the punchlines section of today's sun, in a small article about richard pratt's to-do list it wrote:

Next is engineering the Blues' return to Princes Park to play at least 4 matches against interstate teams and make at least $1.5 million in gate and catering receipts.

i was joking about this with my dad when the announcement was first made, but now it might actually happen. :-D

Would be awsome if it were to happen.

I read that myself and it made my day.

I would love it for no other reason other than see the look on AD's face. The other thing I would like is to see him get us out of the ridiculous TD 10 year deal and get us over to the MCG where we belong.

That would really make my day.

I'm sure that there was a lot of backroom testical twisting on the part of the AFL when the move happened. They put up the party line that it was Carlton's choice but they forced it. Would love DP to dig up some sensitive correspondence and start twisting the AFL's testies!

As much as I love Princes Park and would equally love to attend matches there once again, it would be interesting to see how this would fit in with the redevelopment plans.

The proposed redevelopment of princes park involves demolishing of most of the current seating capacity. So if matches are to be played there, then redevelopment plan would have to either be delayed or modified.

I have resigned myself to a new community venue, where if you visited, you were reminded of the past glories by the remnants of once was.

Not only Carlton matches, though... PP still should be used for smaller interstate fixtures like Hawthorn Vs Freo etc It would fill the ground and give the match some atmosphere.

Princess Park sucks as a venue. No thanks.

i love Princes Park....i would go back anytime....i love it when there are 20 thousand Carlton fans all together....pretty much on our own with a few hundred opposition fans....although the facilities need to be upgraded no doubt....i would go there no matter what...

We can’t go back to PP unless there is a new redevelopment that increases its size to 40, 000...

We can’t go backwards by playing on a ground that holds 20, 000.

We got to look to the future and it’s not feasible to play at PP anymore unless major redevelopments went ahead...

wont happen. the amount of money that would need to be spent just to bring it up to standard. and even then it would still be the worst football stadium in the competition

The AFL will decide where we play matches.

You can't maintain a venue for AFL from the revenue made out of 4 games a year. Even if you took every cent from the gate.

And don't try and tell me that we have to maintain PP anyway. The current maintenance is no where nearly what it would need to be to host games there.

Our funding from the councils and government for stage 1 of the re-development is also dependent on no more AFL games being played there. We need those first class training facilities.

Move forward people, we all have great memories of playing at PP, but the game has moved on. We need to be worrying about filling TD for home games against interstate teams, not moving back to a ground that only caters to the hard core supporters.

Well said Mordan.

I'd rather fill TD with 30-40,000 Carlton supporters and we will when all supporters start to believe that we are on the rise, let alone when we are back at the top in the next 2 years.

Imagine the roar with the closed roof at the Dome with that sort of crowd. Priceless. PP couldn't cater for 30,000 Carlton and opposition supporters. Move forward.

Make The Dome feel like home. Turn up!

We desperately need the elite training facilities, if we want to treat our boys like professional athletes; they will be better looked after, the players will feel more professional and reciprocate on the field, and we are likely to be an attractive place for footy players to come to.

The tables will turn. We are heading in the right direction.

Keep moving forward to create a GREAT CARLTON FOOTBALL CLUB.

Based on what?

break even no.s at PP is 18,000
telstra done 30,000
mcg 22,000

stupid people post stupid comments.

low drawing crowds back at PP eg Port Adel / Freo / Gee.
and the rest at mcg.

make sense financially.
makes sense as home ground intimidation advantage

you got any other revelations you'd like to share?

Well we struggled to break even at Princes Park anyway.
It usually is a nightmare for most people to get out there and opposition supporters tend not to go because of it.

Home ground intimidation? What period are you living in at the moment? The 80s? We haven't been able to 'intimidate' the opposition at that ground for years.

I'd rather fill the MCG or TD than scratch and scrape every last person in to Princes Park while struggling to break even.

Enough of the romance bullshit. There are reasons why the Bombers and Pies are doing so well off the field and that is because they moved away from Windy Hill and Vic Park.

Makes sense financially? Care to explain how you can generate enough money from 4 games a year to fund maintenance of a ground to AFL standards?

Then explain who is going to put in the capital to get the ground back up to AFL standards to begin with.

Then explain where we'll get the $10m to fund the elite training facility once we lose our council and government funding.

Then, maybe start calling people stupid.
