The press on Friday annoyed my sufficiently to don the writing gloves and compare the 2 pre-season premiership teams.

http://carltonfc.com.au/Season2007/News ... wsId=39851

The 2007 version is much better, taller, and far younger than what we had in 2005. Not that that should surprise, but its nice to see confirmed in a pretty table. Enjoy the formatting,

M

If Trent Sporn's #36 had to be retired for a year because he was a Pre-Season Premiership Player, why did Anderson get Deluca's #26?

Keep pushing the Jake Edwards bandwagon though, I really would love to see this kid get a game

Overall thoguh, well done :-D

It's actually our 3rd Pre-season flag. The first was played mid-season.

Maybe you should have checked here :P

Well.. I didn't know that.

Isn't it a great pleasure to actually be debating how many Premierships of certain types we have won? St Kilda fans don't have that for their Day Premierships, the poor sods...

83, 97, 05, 07.

It was originally played mid week in the middle of the season but later changed to pre-season. A better term would be Pre-season/ Night Series.

When SOS gone he left a big hole in the back line and if our memory goes back that far under Britain we lost a few games because he went defensive too early and that’s when our flooding started and because of further back players retiring as pose we had to flood to avoid 100 plus losses even so through lack of good players the flooding also stops you from scoring a wining score.

Now that’s the difference between 2005 & 2007 we have what seems to be a stabilized back line with less flooding need it, and leaving players in their right position without panicking about the back line.

Back then everyone was talking it up too, let's just wait and see where we are in a month or so. That cup means as much as the last one and will have no bearing on what happens from now.

Agreed theGame - the article is a good news article that seeks to factually outline some differences between the teams. That's all, other than a positive intro / conclusion, and a comment that if you continually beat teams int eh Bottom 8, you'll make the finals. I added that in after reading some threads in here during the week that focussed on the opponents. Those opponents somewhere along the line beat Top 8 teams or beat teams who beat Top 8 teams...in this sort of competition I just found that argument a pile of nonsense.

I found last week that despite some positive press people hadn't really done a full comparison of the teams. I didnt have a look at it with an article in mind - I just found the 3 'main' assertions interesting:

1. The new players are much younger on average
2. The new players are much taller on average
3. The new players are faster on average (difficult to assess, but added to fill out the article)

leading to a conclusion that most of us know, that the new Blues are better.

In any given year teams improve more than average and sometimes they decline. The Blues will improve more than average but as to whether that puts us 7th or 15th we'll have to see.
