I believe one of the biggest problems we have is the lack of forward line pressure. This is mainly due to the fact that our forward line is too top heavy. Fev, Whitnall, Kennedy, Fisher have no chance once the ball hits the deck. With only Eddie Betts as a small up front, on the rebound we are getting destroyed. I think we need a better mix up forward. I would throw in Benjamin this week and even consider putting Walker up forward at certain stages. Our other concern is that Waite & Houlihan have too many goals kicked on them most weeks. Jarrod Waite on the weekend refused to man up on Cloke. Cloke should have kicked 7. Waite can not string two good games together. He is the most frustrating player to watch. Houlihan is another, gets plenty of the pill playing in the back half, but surely your first objective is to stop your opponent from kicking goals. You have to be smarter as a defender especially when the game is in the balance or late in quarters. Didak hurt us with 4 majors and all of them were at important stages of the game. |

..in regards to houla's and waite.. ..houla is really a half-forward flanker, and a really good one at that.. .he's played out of position, and in a position which highlights his flaws, not his merits.. ..it's not his fault, it's poor coaching.. ..as for waite, it's a new position for him, and he needs to see if he can make it.. ..switching him forward only keeps him from settling at CHB.. ..i agree that betts often plays the lone small forward.. ..he should stick to the pocket, and lappin should take the other.. ..i'd play whitnall/kennedy in the goalsquare, and let fev roam the 50.. |

Houlihan is a waste of time and should be traded for something harder like a Macca's soft serve on a 40 degree day. Part of being a good forward is applying defensive pressure to retain the footy in your forward half. Houlihan will never be that player, and his much overated disposal sees him as the clangar king of the comp with 29. Its the acceptance of the rubbish that he dishes out each week that makes us a poor as we are and in turn affects how some of our younger players perform...... The only position for Houlihan is in the Bullants with his brother.. |
