Maybe its because the great Carlton/Richmond battles were before my time or because the Tigers have been down for so long but when I think about the teams I hate to lose to it is Essendon* and Collingwood. I mean how could you take seriously a team with spineless leaders like Richo and Campbell. BUT then I remember Balme breaking Southby’s jaw, that game at Princes Park which saw us out of the finals but most of all I remember the feral supporters cheering Kouta doing his knee.

…And I remember why I hate them so much.

They are just a bunch of feral woodworkers - the chainsaw business goes into overdrive when these bozo's win one game in a row.

There players like Sheedy, Balme, Bartlett are just whingeing, whining dried up little snipers.

Have a close look at the 82 Grand Final and see the ungracious performance of that wizened little chipmunk in Kevin Bartlett - Glenn James the umpire nearly reported him (should have) for questioning a few decisions which these days would have brought down the wrath of the entire Koorie Nation.

Sheedy and Balme's performance in 1973 - ensures that these 2 Neanderthals will be remembered for the cowardly thugs that they are.

I hate em.
In 1973 they were a buch of psychopaths.
Robby McGee, Neale Balme and Ricky McLean were thugs.
Then they got the worst of the lot, Mal Brown.
What he did to Trevor Keogh was criminal.

I don't care if we had have been thrashed in the finals in 97. To be beaten by one single, measly, solitary point, and by Bitchmond was just cruel.

Just need to get 50,000 there and they'll melt!

And what is concerning Wallace the most is the fact that the Tigers seem to be unable to deliver on the 'big stage' - against powerful clubs in front of these blockbuster crowds.

"The thing I've been the most disappointed with probably from a supporter base more than anything else, is we've won the games when we've had 20,000 - 25,000 people and we've lost the games when we've had 50,000," he said.

I think there have been 6 Carlton Richmond GF's - of which we have won only 2 - in 1972 and 1982. they won in 1969 1973 and a couple in the first half of the 20th century. Can someone supply the dates for these GF losss against them.

Of all teams we have met in Grand Finals - Richmond is our GF bogey side..

a couple of other ones - wasnt the match when the scoreboard caught fire against Richmond?

What year was that?

Friday night at the MCG.
Pretty sure it was in 2000.
Perhaps even 1999.

It was 1999, the last round of the H&A season I think.

1921 and 1932.

Donald Don preceded Neil Balme and Laurie Fowler by laying out Jack Greenhill in the 'preliminary' final of 1921. He got suspended for 6 weeks.

Yeah, last round. Was my last game with a few mates from Maryborough before moving to Sydney. We were pretty pissed before we left the borough on Friday morning, and my old man was concerned about what we might get up to.

The next morning I actually got a call from the old man asking me if I had anything to do with the fire

He wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, my old man

Love this:

Tigers set for 1970s Blue

Quote:
I think for the Richmond footy club, the rivalry between Richmond and Carlton is as big a rivalry as what the Richmond Football Club has . . . the build-up of all those finals over a period of time and the manner in which those games were played, as well, it is a really healthy rivalry," Wallace said yesterday.

You know i get sick of all the collingwood rivalries. i reckon he's correct. we should definitely revive this one. Make a pitch for a regular day, that's just for the Blues/Tiges. The last saturday in September sounds good.

But seriously, we should grab this and run with it- marketers dream. the initiative would be welcomed.

Agree Vet but something tells me the dimwit in charge is more interested in manufacturing rivalries for St Kilda than recognising the genuine article.

Being a bit kind to the <random derogatory word>, aren't you?

We have rivalries with everyone. The idiots can't recognise that fact. Tradition against commercialising...it's a no-brainer. Pity the assholes in charge have no brains.

The day in 1990 when me & a couple of mates caught the train from Geelong to go to the G to see us play the Tigers. Got on the wrong train, wound up at Winchelsea, hitched back to Geelong & still made it in time - to see us get crapped on by Knights & Trent Nicholls  . Sat in front of a mass of Rich supporters in the Southern Stand & copped it all day.

The champagne socialist law students I lived with in 95 & their Richmond clique. One of them after the 95 GF - 'I was actually barracking for Carlton'...yeeeahh, right

I have a special hatred for Richmond. A Carlton supporter's hatred for Ess & Coll is a given. His or her hatred for they who wear the yellow streak across their hearts has a story all of its own ( to the power of ten)
