Boy, football is a funny game. Two weeks ago we were all pretty down after the loss against Fremantle. Fast forward to today and we are all on a high after a win over the Hawks and Setanta's promotion and, hopefully, his inclusion into the side for the Tigers game tomorrow arvo. So, in saying all that, what do you expect from Setanta tomorrow? Personally, not much. While he has certainly come along way since his first training session at Carlton, it'll probably take him 3-4 weeks to adjust to the intensity of seniors football. As Synbad has said, like Setanta did at Cork, he will start out pretty ordinary and as each week goes by he will become better and better. In tomorrow's game if he were to take a mark, get a kick, deliver a handball and lay a tackle, I'll be ecstatic. Anything else, for mine, is a bonus. Would love to see him snag a goal, though. The crowd will go bring down the MCG if he does. Your thoughts? |

i expect him to try really hard and nothing else. anything he does will be a bonus. he's new to the game, doesn't understand it intuitively as he would hurling and AFL is several classes above vfl. he's a terrific athlete and he will be better for the experience and as great as it is to see him so close, i hope we are not getting ahead of ourselves. and let's forget the fookin hitting. he's more likely to be hit because of lack of experience, and he's actually not that huge, doesn't look anything as big as Prenda or Kouta. Hope he gets a kick, kicks a goal, doesn't get too lost. great effort just getting there. |

We're not even sure he's going to be playing yet. If he does debut I'll probably expect a few positive signs for the future but I won't be expecting much else. He'll probably be a few mistakes too but that won't worry me. |

I'm only expecting 2 things 1. Pagan gives setanta a lot of game time! 2. Tackles and defensive pressure in the forward line - if setanta ends up possessionless but has laid one successful tackle per quarter deep in forward 50 then its already going to be great game for him |

in the situation of both carazzo and chambers not playing would denis put setanta in ahead of either mcgrath or prendagast who are the other emergencies?? mcgrath might not get selected considering our midfield really isn't the problem....we need some tall timber. |

Post subject: | a tad nervous? |
you'd have to think, even though he's played in some big hurling games over in Ire. that he'll be a tad nervous on debut! Lets hope he gets a mighty roar from the crowd when he crosses the white line (and I won't mind if he develops a small case of white line fever - I wanna see him fookin hit someone!) Rich |

Try a wine bottle Shag (boom tish) ![]() Re Setanta - if I was Denis I would be saying don't worry about getting kicks and handballs, just contest everything, and if you see Eddie's little brown legs anywhere near ye - just roll the ball his way! Seriously though, what I expect of him, based on the Bullies and training reports, is fierce contesting. I am sure the kicks etc will come, but a few big tackles will fire him nicely. |
