Pagan happy to do it tough

CARLTON'S clash against Sydney at Telstra Dome on Saturday could be headed for a nil-all draw if the sides adopt the same defensive tactics as last weekend.

Both sides kicked only eight goals against Adelaide and St Kilda, respectively, and were criticised for their styles of play.

But Blues coach Denis Pagan yesterday again defended his game plan.

"We've been playing the ruckman back (in defence) for 30 years," Pagan said.

"That's what we did and it's amazing how everyone made something out of it."

Pagan said the Blues would need all their good players firing to beat the Swans.

"It will be interesting to see what happens with Andrew Demetriou's visit in Sydney today, whether there's any influence to try to make them play differently," he said.

"Roosy (Sydney coach Paul Roos), has to play the best way that's going to help his team be successful.

"We wish we were in their position."

But will Saturday's game be pretty?

"If Brendan (Fevola) kicks eight goals, it might be really pretty; if Lance has a good day, it might be really pretty," Pagan said.

"We haven't been in the game for three weeks. It's the best they've played for a month (against Adelaide), and I was pleased the way they went about it."

Pagan also revealed yesterday that Irishman Setanta O'hAilpin, who kicked five goals in the VFL last weekend, was back on the rookie list and could not be considered for this match.

The Blues had no option with O'hAilpin because the man he replaced, Brad Fisher, has returned from injury.

Ruckman Barnaby French, who sprained the joint on the outside of his right knee against Melbourne two weeks ago, couldn't train last night and will be assessed on Thursday night.

Young gun Jarrad Waite had an off day against Adelaide, but Pagan said he would show faith in him.

"I think we'll give him another chance, somehow," he said.

Alright I am sorted now. Setanta will play this week, we can win 5.5 games for the PP and Carrazzo is eligible for the NRS. Good.

Not only is Fisher back now, he was back last week too. He played for the Bullants, by default then he was eligible for senior selection last week, which then means that Setanta was not eligible for selection last week, let alone this week.

Im only joking, I know how it works, I was just hoping to wind a few more people up than I actually did, I hope ye arent all losing your fight because of a few bad results, it cant rain all the time.

I think we should bring Carlos in this week. Carrazzo is playing well too, reckon he might get an NRS nomination soon. I hope we win less than 36915486 games this season so we can get the first 147 priority picks. Jamie Dunlop is a shoe in for the Coleman medal.

Nothing that you wouldnt already know, Setanta kicks 5 in VFL game, also about Setanta saying GAA players shuold be paid, if they were, he wouldn't have left in the first place. All quite apart from that, there was a good interview with Tadhg in Saturdays paper, double page, good stuff, saying how they have everything laid on for them and all tehy have to do is go out and not make a bollox of it.

Haha, well, sadly, Santy has plenty of role models in the senior side at the minute!  :(

If you had paid professionals over there.. next thing would be players playing at other counties.. then a salary cap and a draft ... then youll have priority picks.

Money= root to all things evil (see Campo)

I know, your spot on Synbad, the thing we love about the game is the drive of the boys to do it for love of the game, but it can be tough on boys who work in dublin and maybe play for Kerry, that is nearly 200 miles and a 4 hour drive ONE way  , train hard, get a bite to eat and then back up the road for work the next morning. Like no where else would you do that off of your own back. Thats why people get so passionate about it, but with the money that is made from the same boys, it is only right that they should be rewarded somewhat for their efforts, even sponsership is still frowned upon in some quarters, the lads can find it difficult to make good deals for themselves. So they should get something but not paid fulltime, I fear it would become like soccer and so places like Kerry, Dublin etc would get the best players, (Dublin already have most of them  ) and smaller counties would be left high and dry. Jesus, even New York could become a major county, as ye all say flower!!! we would be up the proverbial creek then, not a paddle in sight.

Beano, it starts of about rewarding players.. it ends up with clubs folding.
You dont want to go there with the size of your population.

Anyway.... how come Carlos didnt get picked in the side this week????

Crabs can ski down hill
I used to have a pet crab that would water ski, but every time we tried slalom, he broke a leg.
Is Setanta not in the ants team for this week, or were you talking about the seniors against the swans???
