It was great to hear a "Woof" at a Carlton game again. It's going to be interesting when Hartlett eventually cracks into the side, having two players with long 60m+ kicks will be something to see.

The "woof" is back. Not since Ang Christou played the last of his 151 games for Carlton in 2002 have the Blues' faithful had something like this to shout about.

Chris Bryan, the 197cm ruckman with a kick to rival any in the AFL, debuted for Carlton yesterday and ensured Blues fans didn't leave the Telstra Dome totally dispirited after their loss to Sydney kept them at the foot of the ladder.

Bryan did more than fill the boots of the injured Barnaby French yesterday, marking impressively across half-back and winning more kicks (15) than any other Carlton player in his first home-and-away game.

But it was the way Bryan kicked the ball - long - that won over the crowd. He has already inherited the "woof" bestowed on Christou and Val Perovic - the Carlton full-back whose long kicks in the 1970s first inspired the now-familiar war cry.

After the game the 23-year-old said he was fully appreciative of the honour Carlton fans had given him. "I wasn't expecting that. It was pretty funny actually. The boys upstairs (members) were pretty happy they've got a 'woof' back in the club.

But Bryan was a punt that paid off on an otherwise bad day for Pagan. "He was outstanding . . . I hope he gains a lot of confidence and I hope he grows from it because what he did today was pretty special. We haven't had a big bloke around the ground like that for a long, long while," Pagan said.

how about that wanker of an umpire who called him for crossing the line with the kickout and bounced it........ wanker!

"Ooh.. this guy's taking the spotlight off my umpiring performance... better knock him down a notch"

The umpires killed us all day, often resulting in crucial momentum swings.

I refuse to take any credit for "the sign" without me short arse mate Cammo... He covered me afterr 3 foiled attempts and ran a decoy for me so I could pull off the "SIGN OF THE CENTURY" that sits next the to me at this point in time. congrats to you boys for the "woof"! i was sitting in the medallion club today (work thing) and heard the "woof" and knew immediately who was responsible! despite the fact my boss didn't seem impressed, i was proud of youse!

Haha, great stuff guys. I made a pretty piss weak attempt at geeing people up for the woof with Karl a year or so back on TBV, but Bryan sounds like just the right man for the WOOF!

Yeah, it was a crap decision. And what really got up my goat, was after it happened, Bryan was "dropped" from kick-in duties for a while. The umpires killed us all day, often resulting in crucial momentum swings.
