I don't know about you... but i hold no faith in Syd Jackson making the team. He is one of the top half dozen Aboriginal players of all time - but i think he will be disadvantaged by the fact that he played for Carlton. Maybe that would preclude him from selection if ron evans and his Essendon* cronies are involved in anyway. You will never see a player with quicker pace and a better drop kick in the game than old syd. - the footage of him is limited but i recommend people tracking it down. two time premiership player too and kicked 7 goals in a final.... in 70 or 72... think 72. |

Lets hope Evans and co have nothing to do with the selection...after all - that would be a schocking afront to the Indigenous community. The selection Panel for this should come from people who are held in high regard have know what they're talking about. Ron Barassi would be a good one. Kevin Sheedy as well. If they get it right, Syd Jackson will be in there without a worry. |

At worst he will be on the bench. One of the pioneers for Aboriginal footballers with plenty of talent and skill to burn. A monty. |

Syd wasn't the greatest Aboriginal Footballer or one of the first to play in the AFL/VFL but certainly a pioneer and a trailblazer for his people to start being recognised. He blazed a trail for the Krakouer Brothers and then the avalanche of aboriginal players in the modern era. Probably set back the cause of racial vilification laws with his acknowledment of setting up Lee Adamson during the 70's finals series but hey he had to play in a Grand Final. ![]() |

Jackson should not be on the interchange - he should be in the team. How many of the players on the list have kicked six or seven goals in a preliminary final? i would say next to nil.. how many have played in 2 premiership teams? only a couple. Syd Jackson - forward pocket.... but then again Sheedy is on the selection committee. What gives him the right to be on the selection panel anyway? because he coached long? so what. Barassi coached Syd Jackson. Barassi should be on the panel. |
