Boys im going early here but watch out for Brock "The Chop" McLean. He has shown us more in 2 nab games then he has with his time at Carlton. Yesterdays game his spread was great and he didnt look off the pace as he did last year. I definately think Curnow/Ellard are no shoe-ins. Disposal was A+.

I've been a big critique of his. But lets hope he can re-invent himself and find the form that made him a top line act.

Some other notables from yesterdays game:

A) Gibbs will be a good player but not great. He will not take the next step as Smurph did last year. But Kreuzer will. Forget how much they are pushing the PR from optus oval that this is his breakout season. He is too weak and has little heart.

B) Collins and Davies are for the tip. Davies still plays like he is a first gamer. Lets not forget this hack played finals. Frazer Dale showed more composer. Looks to be a keeper.

C) Russel is finished. What goes up quick, must go down quick.

D) Hammer will be great this year. Looks like he will take Gibbs next step for him. Not convinced Rowe will get a senior game without key injuries.

How about Frazer Dale? Can be upgraded for Buckley. Not a lot of him but he impressed, and the MC have shown in recent years that they're willing to give the nod to rookies who perform over NAB Cup, esp Joseph, Curnow et al, although the latter is a mature age body. Interesting thought anyway. The kid was good on Sat...

And how many finals have you played? Nice when we denigrate our own young players. Start of his 3rd season, and we're in the pre-season none the less.

You take this from a practice match that means nothing :screwy:

Negatives are the only things that count if you're appraising a player's game.

The good things are to be ignored.

I like to think of Gibbs like with giant eagles wings, and singin' lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an angel band and I'm in the front row and I'm hammered drunk!

I like to picture Hammer as a figure skater. He wears like a white outfit, and he does interpretive ice dances of my life's journey.

I like to think of Russell as a mischievous badger.

Really dane? You don't like criticism of the club, but you think two of our young players are 'for the tip'??

Gibbs is known around the club as "Next Step". But like Johnno's nickname "The Dominator" it has nothing to do with football.

I was talking about Dale being a keeper.
I'll edit for you.

Gibbs will take the next step
Hammer will nail it
Buckley and Dale are players
Rowe needs fitness
Levi needs confidence
McLean could pull off a Walker
Sugar hot and cold
Bower, Russle question marks at this stage
Davies has this season to make an impression
Krueze breakout year

All up though very happy with the way we are travelling.

Just could not get over the thought that the club is getting everything ready for Rd 1 and that we will be on fire!

I thought McLean played better than Ellard. May get a crack for Rd 1.
I thought Dale had a nice cameo. No chance just yet.
I think Davies has a lot of potential and if we persevere with him, we will be well served. He is hard and quick. He attacks it, gets it and tries to do something with it. You can't ask for more than that. He is still learning. A chance, especially as we are two HBF down. Luckily we have plenty of them.
Gibbs always looks as though he is at half pace. I wish he would show more emotion and I hope he improves. He doesn't play like a #1 pick for mine. He is yet to display his elite qualities for more than a few seconds at a time. One of the first picked every week. A certainty.
I think Hampson is a shoo in for Rd 1.
Russell on exposed form so far will possibly not get a Rd 1 berth but there is still time for him to get one and he has apparently been good at training. A possibility, especially as we are two HBF down. Luckily we have plenty of them.
