Did what I was supposed to today... ducked down to the local Lalor reserve to watch the thrilling DVFL match between the Bloods and the Eltham Panthers. Missing from the Bloods line up was former Collingwood stars Ben Kinnear, and the mercurial Scott Cummings ( ![]() The Eltham side featured former Bulldogs nugget Adam Contessa. Not a bad match. Lalor got up. But the highlight of the match was the appearance on the sidelines of local boy Lance Whitnall, who pulled up in his Commodore stationwagon with his mates. Green can in hand, abusing some of the softer Eltham players, like number 34, who was shit. Good times |

Did Lance honk the horn and flash the lights every time a goal was kicked? |

No, everytime a tinny was finished I think. |

no, no honking, unfortunately. It was a shame he rocked up, because he was right behind my mate and I, and we were trying to discuss how unspectacular he is. I think he drove, so I don't think he was hitting it too hard. To be fair to him, its his day off so why not have a quiet can at the footy? Lance is from a Bloods family. Shane plays for Bundoora, though (I think... someone like that). Yeah, believe it or not, but Scott Cummings plays for Lalor (but wasn't in the team this week). And Phil Maylin coaches Eltham, who had better players but a lot of spectators on the day. I was trying to eavesdrop on his conversations, but couldn't hear anything besides the hooting at the female boundary umpire |

I saw Phil scoff three hot dogs in as many minutes at VFL Park about 15 years ago. I was impressed. |

My good mate was teamed up on the golf course the other week with Justin Murohy and a couple of other ex bombers. Murphy had the week off with an injury and was getting through one smoke per hole. Hack of a golfer also. I thought Murphy played his best game for four years last night. |

"Hey Lance! This could be you playing out here next season!" ![]() I actually dared my mate to say it, but he didn't have the balls for it. A girl I know told me she spoke to Fev at a bar recently, and he was a perfect gentleman. She also described Leigh Montagna as "a pig". |

Montagna and Milne are exactly that... I have seen them first hand at clubs and there is little wonder they got into as much trouble as they did. |

Busy weekend for Lance - I stood just along the boundary fence from him and watched the Heidelberg West vs. Macleod match today (Sunday). Glorious sunny day at the footy, at one of the most picturesque ovals* known to man. *So picturesque, in fact, that they filmed scenes for the forthcoming Hollywood semi-animated blockbuster 'Charlotte's Web' here a short time ago. The leaves are still wearing their autumnal layer of paint - yes, they spray-painted the trees reddy-orange as Mother Nature took too long to do her Autumn thing (and Hollywood can't wait). |

He is dreaming of playing footy for fun with his mates, only problem is .... he still wants 500k a season. He should also watch the local lads go to work on Monday and earn a living. To quote the great boxer and not so great husband Mike Tyson... "old too soon, smart too late" |

Ruckus, did Shane Whitnall play in that game? I thought he played for Bundoora, but that might be wrong |

I thought he played for Bundoora, but that might be wrong Right all along Tyrant; Shane definitely plays for Bundoora. Along with Matt Carmichael, incidentally, who some may remember as being something of a player for Carlton back in the old U19 days. Worse (and less talented ) players than Carmichael have had AFL careers. When trying to find a (footballing) link to explain Lance's attendance at Sunday's game, perhaps he's mates with the Macleod's Stuart Mangin. They were both at the Knights, but I would've thought Lance was a year or two later. Not sure, probably plenty of old Northern lads (or former schoolmates) getting a kick in the DVFL. Strong comp, some good players going about. |
