Stats lie, I know they do. According to this our key players look OK, if we just ignore that worrying trough to the next tier, then maybe we'd be more competitive. Yes, of course I'm ignoring effectiveness but the tables are too big anyway!

Interesting - Waite v Whitnall, very similar stats.

Let the discussion commence!

An interesting spin would be to divide Average state by average time on ground - I couldn't find these collated anywhere, other than the Herald Sun article on the weekend which seem to do it.

ps. what do the other 17% of people think?

Back to the article....

I think this shows, either through actual performance (Sporn) or time allowed on the ground (Prenders) the major reason for our decline in 2005. So many of our second and third tier players just can'tget it at the moment.

Exactly molsey.

It could almost be called the 'second rounder' syndrome.

The structure of our list is all out of whack. We have far fewer second round (and therefore second tier) type players on the list than other clubs.

We tried to make up for our lack of second tier players by using the recylced players.

This year most of our 'second tier' has gone backwards significantly.

Johnson is the only one of the 'retreads' to have improved. All the others are down.

Yes, in terms of stats.

In terms of games played though, McGrath has improved in 2005, suggesting that Pagan either sees a future for McGRath or we're that deficient in the half back flanks (noting omissions of WIggins, Sporn) that he is a must have in the back line.

I guess we should also define retreads as 2004 recycled players - French is having a great year and his improvement has been acknowledged.

And the other 27% can't add.
