A question more for our training watchers I suppose.
Should there be a shakeup at the end of the year for our assistant coaches?
We have some great honorary assistant coaches in Madden & Carey doing the right thing by our youngsters but are those on the payroll, Elshaugh & Libba and whoever else is there, in the gun.

i thik we should make Carey as assistant coach, he takes control of the forawrd line. Bring SOS back to the club and make him an assistant coach, coach of the backline. I would also like to see greg williams back at the club doing something

It's odd that Liberatore was just about the scraggingest tagger in living memory yet he hasn't taught our midfield anything about accountability.

If Voss retires this year, we need to get him down to Carlton as an assistant coach pronto.

Not only will he mentor our younger midfielders and strengthen our current midfield, but he will provide us with the necessary leadership qualities that we have been lacking for some time.

Good call pj. IMO I'd love to see a young assitant on board, one recently out of the game. And I also think, in some ways, we need to open up to the opportunities and experiences players from other clubs can bring us. I hated Worsfold as a player, but he was a superb choice as assistant under Parko. I hated Worsfold because of how bloody good he was.

Players like Voss and his ilk are what we need, players who have experienced the lowest of the lows and know what it takes to get to the top in current day football. Voss, like Pagan, was a Carlton supporter as a kid, and there is our in. If he does retire, we should chase him very, very hard to try and get him to our club I reckon. One of the greatest leaders of recent times, he's just what we need.

Who does he replace though?

Elshaugh, who has been around for some time...

or

Libba, who seems to have done very little to strengthen our team.

I can't see Denis getting rid of Elshaugh, who has gone with Denis wherever he has gone I think...

Why can't we just have one more assistant coach on board? Why does it have to be one replacing another?

How about Chris Scott from Brisbane if he retires this year. Got the most out of himself and was a leader at the club. Premiership player/enforcer and speaks very well in interviews. Give us a differnet perspective on tactics and training under Matthews. I dont think Voss will retire this year but would like someone from Brisbane to help out.

The other one who might retire this year is Drew Banfield. Not a hugely talented player but very professional and consistent. Premiership player (might be agaon this year) and been coached by a few in Malthouse, Judge and Woosha. Been a vice captain and is highly reagrded over in the west.

At times like this, I have to admit that I don't know as much about the intricacies of the game as I'd like.... but all I could think yesterday was that it was amazing how many times our guys were involved in tackles that were broken... to me it seemed an inordinate number where we were in good position, and the Weagles players would toss us aside like rag dolls....

Can we add a specialist tackling coach?? That's what I remember most about Wizard cup - Defence that was putting players on the ground all the time.....

Elshaugh is Pagans right hand man he won't be going anywhere. The problem I have is as I've said before all coaches are 5 foot nothing Pagan, Elshaugh, Libba and Mitchell. What can they teach the talls?
A good start would be to target a tall and Voss if he becomes available for assistant roles.

Shaun Rehn's your man. Premiership player, comes from different football background (like worsfold), could work with ruck and midfield setup, coached a team in his own right (West Adelaide) and knows how to develop youngsters. Westies are struggling with injuries and he's been at the club three years and the time is right for him to move on.

This is a good topic and I think there may be something in this. The issue of changes is one thing but I also think that we appear to be light on in the assistant coaching department as well. This might be a minor thing but I have noticed that our whole coaching dept take forever to get to the 1/4 and 3/4 huddles!! Surely one of them can get there straight away and start addressing the players - really annoys me!

Exactly my thoughts, PJ. Vossy would be of great assistance to our young'ins. And has been through the good & bad times at Brisbane.
