Trade anyone who:

1. Will not be part of our next premiership.
2. We can get anything approximating market value for.

We must be ruthless - we must take the hard line in building the next premiership team. Skinny, Campo, and Whitnall have been great servants of the club, but the cold hard facts are that the club will be better off next year if they are running around in another club's jumper and we have 2 or 3 more quality juniors who have a chance of being part of the next Carlton premiership team.

I do not care if they are prepared to accept 2 year contracts, or if they are prepared to accept reasonable $$$s. They must be used as trade bait while they have some currency - this is how they can be of the greatest value to us.

I implore the club - do not go weak knee'd on us now !!!!!!!!

We are at a moment in time where we can choose continue with mediocity, or we can take a decision (which will be vastly unpopular with some elements within the club) to give us a chance to make a quantum leap forward.

But it will take hard men to make hard decisions - I only hope we have them.

i dont really agree.

Campo and Kouta and even lance would be more than useful on a reduced contarcts. kouta's contract is not up for renewal anyway so that is moot.

Campo and Kouta would hold very little trade value.

lance for a top 20 pick would be great and i'd take that.

we can only have so many picks in one year anyway. player who wont be part of our next premiership, well thats debatable.

Guys like Johnson, Sporn, Wiggins, Davies etc etc may or may not be part of our next flag, but these guys hold ZERO trade value anyway, so we would be better off keeping the guys we feel are the best out of the bunch of guys on the fringes.

we cant get rid of or trade them all away in one year!

I'd be happy for lance and campo to stay on reduced salarys, and to be honest i cant see lappin leaving. but if he does, trade him for what ever we can get of value.

I don't know if this allowed but why not say.. we will give you Lance and Campo for a top 10 pick...

Or Lance and Lappin.
Or Campo, Lappin and Lance for a top 7-8 pick....

Maybe we could have picks 1,3 and 7or8, who knows...

Inside the top 10 or even a late first round could net us a Varcoe, Drum,Kennedy, Jones . The first 5 appear set but after that there will be some suprises.

Still need a few older heads to (hopefully) provide leadership. Do you want to have a team full of kids that gets smashed each week? Won't be good for membership/ attendances/ sponsorship/ $.

Understand your point. But I cant see the leadership coming from the senior players. They are the ones looking dispirited and playing out time. You need a mix of players and experienced ones to shield the youngsters in hard times but it is not happening. Or am I just a bit down on a few of them?

Bingo. Its not the younger players we're missing, its the guys in the 24-28 age bracket with 50-100 games that we're missing.

you are down on kouta and lappin. campo isn't showing enough in terms of leaderhsip.

perhaps kouta and lappo just feel like they are on a sinking ship.

confidnece is a funny thing, and when it returns they will seem like better leaders.

kouta's game was very dissapointing last week but i reckon he has been leading us pretty well this year.

lappins form has probably dipped a little but i dont think his leadership really has

Piss off this "leadership group" crap next year and just appoint Kouta captain with Stevo & Teague his deputies. If Bowyer is cut from the list he should be retained as runner or part of the football department somewhere as he is a positive influence & a good role model by all reports

How about appointing Stevo with Waite and Tbird as deputies?

That would be what I would do as early as next year.

I agree that most of our players would hold little trade value, but if any club is prepared to trade for Campo it would be Port Adelaide I reckon. Campo may have two more years left in him and in Port he has the requisite muscle to shield him from the taggers. Conventional wisdom says that port are struggling due to their losses in the midfield the last two off seasons, I think Carlton is Princess Leia, Campo is R2D2 and Port Adelaide is Obe-Wan ... help me Obe-Port you're our only hope.

Campo for a first-rounder?
